Are Mikimotos Reserve Collection Akoyas that much better than competitors' offerings?

Comparing strands in person is the best way to go - photographs can be misleading. It also gives you the opportunity to ask questions. Like all grades of pearls...there are rungs on the ladder. The slight differences can add up to big bucks and once you are up in the 'rare air' all the...

    Purple fade

Wow that's some fading ! I was always concerned about the darker colours and had asked at Paspaley when I was there doing my wholesale shopping . They told me at the time , about 4 years ago, that the colourful freshwaters were dyed and some colours held up better than others. Since then I've...

Need help from experts - what happened to this WSS pearl?

I've seen these cracks before and always assumed it happened quite some time earlier as they seemed well under the surface. I did have one drop that I didn't sell as the crack seemed closer to the surface and I was concerned that if dropped it would crack further.

Advice to keep a knotted pearl facing forward?

Bernadette, you say that you use multiple fine threads when you knot . I'm not sure I've ever seem a video of multiple thread knotting ( more than two) and think it would be wonderful if you could do a short video for PGF on how to do this . The more expert videos (and I know we have a...

My first and very fun Tahitian rope

Looks great ! I usually lay mine out on a board first then string them onto wire. That way I get a good feel for the finished look. Also easier to move things around if the colours and sizes are not balanced.

My first floating Tahitian pendant, and "how" I made it.

That is a stunning pearl .. on that side I know :D Well done. It can be a real trial and often the slight difference in the drill holes meeting up at an angle isn't an issue when stringing. More so when you are trying to push something solid through - like a reamer. This is where my little...

    Plated Pearls

They look like regular very good quality Fireballs to me. It's possible that there is some sort of clear coat. But they don't look odd to me.
