I don't think you need to get them appraised. Get them cleaned and restrung and enjoy wearing them. Don't save them for special occasions. Wear them all the time.

They look like imitation pearls to me, too. The color and lack of overtones match my grandmother's imitation pearls, which I treasure.

These look like worn out imitation pearls to me. There doesn't seem to be pearl overtones. And the drill holes are huge and flat. My grandmother's Richelieu imitation pearls have a sterling silver clasp. Back in their day (possibly 1930's or 40's), they looked like a nice strand of pearls...

They look like freshwater pearls to me, because of the eggy shapes. I'm not familiar with the brand, though. The nacre looks good. If you like the clasp and the price is right, enjoy.

RE: Telling freshwater from saltwater. It depends on the pearls. I don't think freshwater vs. saltwater. I think Tahitians, South Sea, Akoya, Kasumi, Chinese freshwater, etc. Some pearls will jump out at me immediately because the shape or color are typical of a particular type of pearl...

I've had mine for 7-10 years. They're still as blue as when I bought them. I wear them often. It might take 40 - 50 years for white pearls to yellow. Keeping them clean, restrung often, worn often, and not languishing in a box for decades helps keep them nice.
