Pattye, to go off on a further tangent, silverware was made of silver because, as a precious metal, it was thought to protect you from poison. Probably gold would work as well, but when was silver more valued than gold?

Thank you all! Next I strung some petosky stones, which are a type of fossilized coral found in Michigan. One summer I visited friends on Lake Michigan, and we walked along the lake looking for petosky stones. The ones I found were not as nice as these... and a close up:

Next, some abalone with quartz. I was able to get the shine of the abalone, but not so much the sparkle of the quartz.

All your pearls are so lovely... but I just flipped over that purple and gold strand! What a beautiful combination!

I got these unusual color south seas pearls from Kong's. I strung them with tanzanites. Amazing!

I finally finished this wire link project. The beads are beryl, and quite lovely.

Lisa c, the back of the turquoise watch is marked sterling, so I assume it is gilt or vermeil. It has never worked; I bought it for the enamel. The art deco watch does work, and is fun, except the chain is so long it is a bit of trouble. I often wonder about the people who wore my older pieces...

I was looking all over for this watch... finally found it. The back is in lovely shape, but the front is missing some enamel. I took a close up so you can see the engraving on the metal under the enamel.

Lovely pieces, gigi, lisa c! I love enamel. I have an art deco enamel watch, which is lots of fun, but on a long chain it's hard to wear -- it keeps banging into things. The locket I think has faux pearls, and the lace pin real ones.
