Chinese cultured freshwater pearls, natural colour.. side-drilled "oval" but with lots of 'off shapes" and rings. Some seem to have nice metallic-like lustre, but pretty standard commercial chinese.
That is no problem, but since I'm unsure which photos you are referring to (the first in the thread are probably mine), I won't be able to sign off on others' work of course ;)

Awesome explanation! If I can photograph a few of these to better be able to show that effect, I will. The most "fiery" (if i can use that term) ones are those that seem to be a bit clearer, rather than milky white. Since this collection has many with very glossy surfaces, some do resemble white...
;) they are all for sale, but the owner would prefer to gather more info about them and have a real valuation. Then she'll decide if it's worth parting with them. I do agree with posts above, that the lost shouldn't really be split.

I am still trying to photograph some as I really can't manage to catch the depth some have. I have Cannon G9 as well as a light box but shooting regular jewellery seems a bit easier!

yes, there are blue mussel pearls as well (These are my favorite and most researched) and some quahog, though processing methods and actual disdain for the concretions keep them rather unexposed. (crunchy clam chower due to a ground up pearl would have a negative impact -not to mention possible...
