GIA Pearl Grading Course, My Experience

Thank you for your feedback, Gemgeek and Pattye! I am rather nervous about the homework and exams and am not quite sure what to expect but it sounds like a thumbs up from each of you and that means a lot to me. Thank you so much!

GIA Pearl Grading Course, My Experience

Dear PG-ers, I'm sorry I am resurrecting such an old thread but I am seriously thinking of taking the GIA Pearl Course but my concern in that it might be too much work for me. I have two young boys and elderly parents to care for and it has been a long time since I was in school so I'm not sure...

    ?1.6million Pearl Earrings!

Hi Everyone, Not sure if someone has posted on this before or if this is the right part of the forum for it but just came across this fascinating news and wanted to share...

    Edison pearls?

Is it alright to say, not being anything of an expert in pearls, that I quite liked the fireballs? Will this mean that the future of pearls will be largely round? I really hope not. I love weird and wonderfully-shaped baroques.

    Royal Wedding Pearls

Miriam, thank you for the pearl-specific version of the Royal Wedding photos. It's very nice to see the photos collated to showcase the pearl jewellery. I have to say, I was distracted from thinking about the jewellery by the many hats and fascinators of the day. The last time I ever paid...

    Konfirmation present

What a beautifully, young way to wear Tahitian pearls! I had always thought Tahitian Pearls might have been more suited to more mature ladies but setting them on silver without the stuffiness of diamonds and gold makes them a very youthful gift indeed. The lucky young lady will be delighted.

    Where to restring in NYC?

Interesting you should ask that, the knots definitely did add length to the final result but my style of knotting is such that my knots are really small. The thing is, the choker's owner had gained some weight around the neck and hadn't worn the choker for some time. The knotting actually made...

    My Hong Kong shopping

I can only say 'wow'! Like looking at cloud pictures. Where does one even go to buy such pearls? I cannot think of a single jewellery place I know that would carry such gorgeous shapes. I think I am shopping in the wrong part of the world. Thanks for that, Bryan (pearlsbynature). Really love...

    My Hong Kong shopping

Nice pearls! Lamb cutlets for entree and souffle for dessert. Now we need something as an appetizer. I can only think of 'potato'!

    My Hong Kong shopping

Unbelievably beautiful and unusual looking pearls. I think my mouth dropped at the 'lamb cutlets' strand. They're certainly not the kind of pearls one finds in your neighbourhood jewellery shop. What wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing your bounties, Silvia and pearlsbynature. Silvia, I love...

    Where to restring in NYC?

I hadn't realised how much people charge for pearl stringing. Thanks for the information, GemGeek. Perhaps one day I may have the potential to quit my day job and turn pro ;) Just for practice, I have been doing complimentary stringings for friends and family. It's nice to be able to practice...

    Knitting with pearls

Addy, thank you kindly for all the knitting links. I have tried knitting once before (in high school) and was only able to get as far as the single roll of yarn would get me - I just didn't know what to do next. It will take me some courage to pick up a set of needles again. It's the design part...

    Knitting with pearls

What an amazing shawl...and to incorporate pearls into the design is just breathtaking! I thought pearl stringing was one of life's challenges but Addy's shawl takes 'pearl stringing' to a whole new level. I'm in complete awe. Hope everyone here on Lowly Beaders had a great festive season. I...

'Chancing' upon Freshwater Pearls in North America

Orient, thank you for the link to Kari Pearls. A fantastic site/ shop! It was so interesting to see so many natural pearls in the one place when all I've ever seen are the standard freshwaters. I think I am developing symptoms of Pearl Fever. I can't stop thinking about those pricey conch...

    Are these Keshi's?

Cees, they're actually really pretty even if they have 'gone wrong'. I'm not sure why but I am becoming quite partial to these irregular shaped pearls. Perhaps, it's all those months of stringing the same strand of near rounds that makes me crave for some interesting pieces. I love the pearl...
