Need your expertise - Great find or fake?

Dear Melodious, I agree with BWeaves, these could well be cultured pearls. I have recently bought a 1975 strand in a condition just like yours. On vintage Akoya strands the pearls nearer the clasp can get very worn down and end up barrel shaped, some of the other pearls may have such thin nacre...

Found pearls that were given to me 25/30 years ago need help identifying value

Beautiful luster on your pearls. They look like very nice Akoyas. I have looked at the hallmark and it is 9 carat gold as Pearl Dreams said, and the clasp was hallmarked in the UK (the crown), at the Birmingham assay office (the anchor), in 1993 (date letter T). There is still a market for...

    2nd knotting - kojima bracelet

I struggled for years looking for a clamp to hold pearls when drilling, but now use a wooden clothes peg, it works so well, and I use a dremel drill.

Be Careful with Returns to China

Sea Urchin I am sorry that you have had difficulty returning to Lei Family Jewelry. I have bought from them in the past and occasionally returned items, I used to send the tracking code to the sellers and they refunded me upon the return or before, but as others have said it took a few weeks. I...

Need two small half drilled akoya

Pale gold or cream Akoya would go beautifully with the 22 ct gold settings. This is a natural colour, not stained, and very flattering. I would love to see your earrings once they are fitted.

Need two small half drilled akoya

KarinK, I use many little Akoya pearls, in white (tiny 4.3mm) dyed black (4.5mm) and silver-blue (5.5mm). Are you sure you want them this small?

Help, Silk Knot Stuck Inside A Pearl!

This has happened to me many times when restringing pearls, I have tried many ways to get thread out and I agree with Wendy, drill it out. You don't actually dill the pearl, only thread, so its super easy. Good Luck

    My new Tahitian pearl studs

Pearley, beautiful earrings; they look great against your skin tone and they are a wonderfully large size and a lovely colour.

    Dripping in Pearls?.. Literally!

I think this is such a shame. It was a beautiful dress worn by a beautiful woman. The dress' worth is surely not just the value of its component parts, be them high end Japanese Akoya or pretty faux pearls, it was a stunning design which must have taken a huge amount of skill and time to create...

what color background to display pearls

Excellent question cc811, I have spent so many hours trying to photograph pearls well. I have occationally photographed white pearls against a black background and made them look good, but it works so much better against white.
