Jewelry ideas for some akoyas and tahitian

This is what I was thinking about - the pendant bit that folds behind the brooch...

    What are your favourite clasps?

From 1989... I suppose they'd be considered vintage now

    What are your favourite clasps?

Love my diamond and sapphire clasp from my great aunt. It is now being used as a pearl and gem rope along with the healthy vintage akoyas from the original strand (thanks Catherine Cardellini for the glamour shot)

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

Summer is on it's way and my great aunt's akoya mix is having an early dinner on the veranda this fine evening. (ignore the ageing neck, doesn't keep up with the pearls...)

    Christmas Gift for Mom...HELP!

Don't know if this will help you visualise the size difference a mm can make. These are my old akoya studs, not top grade, the larger ones are 6.8mm and the smaller ones 5.7mm. (I have small ear lobes so they are fine for me but probably on the weeny side for many.) What a lovely present for...

    Akoya studs

These are the side by side photos showing the difference between 6.8mm and 5.7mm earrings. I love the subtle colour differences and of course the sentimental value of these lovely gifts.

    Akoya studs

I collected the newly re-glued earrings the other day, not the best of glue jobs but never mind, they are back home and wearable. Question - what product could I use to get the excess glue off or is it too late now the glue has set?

    Akoya studs

There are often questions about drill holes and the difference a millimetre or two make to the size of a pearl so I thought I'd post a few photos of my akoya studs as an example... A few years ago a dear friend gave me these earrings for my birthday. They belonged to his wife, they measure 6.8mm...

What does it mean when Akoya pearls wear out?

This is what it looks like when vintage akoyas wear out... This strand belonged to my great aunt and has been worn to bits (by me!). They were re-strung in 2012, you can see where a few were replaced with FWP. I was not happy and had them completely remodelled, adding some FWPs and other beads...

    De-Stash Project - Stash Bash

Thank you! It is made up of my old vintage graduated akoyas, some mediocre freshwaters, iolite, amethyst and can't remember what the green ones are beads. I hardly wear green but I love the way the green beads vary so much - from pale, almost see-through to solid green. It is 38". Here are...

    De-Stash Project - Stash Bash

And look what I got in the post today!!! Catherine Cardellini very kindly strung them for me, these are her glamour shots... Neck shot to follow in daylight. I'm thrilled!

    De-Stash Project - Stash Bash

Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, the clasp is beautiful and I love it. Anyway, it is still raining here and I am still playing, I have now 'strung' them onto some of DH's fishing line. Photos attached but may I say first - hmphh, Lowly Beaders, my bottom! My admiration for all you clever...

    De-Stash Project - Stash Bash

It has been raining today so I decided to play... Found an old grooved something in the man cave and undid my old graduated akoyas, my recently purchased but not new freshwaters, my amethyst beads, my iolite beads and my green beads (forgotten what they are...). This is my meagre stash!! This...

Look what I found in an antiques/collectables shop!!

I've been after some pearls/gemstone beads for a long overdue project for some time and found these in an antiques/collectables shop. Just thought I'd share the conversation I had with the shopkeeper with you all... Label said '1940's 50's seed pearls. AU$55' I said (very politely) "So how...
