I've been looking at some really funky, oddball "baroque" necklaces from China on ebay. They are VERY inexpensive, appear to be poor-quality dyed pearls with visible flaws, so I'd be buying one or two just as "fun" pieces.

Got the pearls back today. They are now individually knotted :) I'm so relieved. The clasp tested as 14 kt white gold. Thought I'd update as you were all so helpful -- you deserved to know too :)

Took them in today. The restringer is going to test the metal, she suspects it is white gold given the intracacy of the clasp but will test to make sure, and the kt of it. They are definitely Akoya, and definitely overdue for restringing :)

I'd suggest that you give Elevation Gallery in Canmore a call and see what you can find out about Chris Beck's work -- he's won several awards for his pearl designs. I thnk he does some work in Calgary, too, but I don't know where.
