Hello everyone!
I'm new to this site. A month a ago, I went to Anaheim and visited a reptile expo, i bought a new turtle over there. Then I went to Downtown Disney to meet up with my brother. We looked around to see what we could shop around for. I saw a kiosk which sells pearls. We both decided to buy this deal "buy one mussel and see what you get for $15" we picked one and open it-then bam!... found one pearl! it a silver pearl!

I was so shock! I never seen a silver pearl in my entire life! Now I would like to know if it possible to find out which type of pearl is it? knowing I paid 15 bucks, I'm not concern about the value of the pearl...because it's cheap...I'm more curious to know which type of pearl is it? After this experience I want to someday save money and buy some pearls from pearl paradise...

The "wish pearl" kiosks are Chinese freshwater pearls.

They didn't grow in the shell you opened, but were put there after the fact.

It's a clever, but misleading way to value-add otherwise inexpensive pearls.

Hi Pearlwonder,

Welcome to the forum.

Dave is absolutely right. It is a Chinese freshwater.

Over the past almost 15+ Years now, I have witnessed varied " creative marketing techniques" to get people to buy this "product".

Personally I'd get a silver chain and "pearl cage" and wear it. Because it comes with a fond memory of the trip and time with your brother!

Cheers
Ash

It's a wish pearl again.
Albeit a better quality one than some of the really grotty potato ones I've encountered.

Interesting well I'm happy to find out what type of pearl is it!! I also notice the mussel shell had a hole too! Even though it not best pearls but I still cherish this one. This pearl has really started to spark my interest in pearls! Next future purchase would be a tahitian pearl in braclet! :p
I think it a great idea! What mm size chain I should be looking for? If I find a "pearl cage" that can look masculine, I would buy one ( I'm a guy by the way) or maybe set it as a pendent?

Hi Glenn
since you are a guy you might want to think about getting the pearl drilled and threading it onto a leather cord (1mm or 11/2mmm) and wearing it as a necklet or tied around your wrist.
