Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

When you reached out, the team didn't know what Hisano and I had found. They thought we were only bringing back some special blue baroques. But we did find pistachio too - and golds! They just arrived on Monday and we updated the event description :)

    Chinese red fresh water Pearls

Edisons can have some red to them, but if they are regular Chinese freshwater pearls, they have been dyed. This necklace shows a mix of dyed colors None of these colors would grow naturally in freshwater.

    Pearl Factory

I took this photo at Mikimoto's experimental farm in Ise, Japan about 15 years ago. My hands were a little dry ;) These are natural-color akoya pearls that were freshly harvested. I shot this photo during a trip Xuwen, China in 2007. I had never seen baroque, natural-color akoya pearls before...

AGTA News - "Chinese/Baby Akoya" are Actually Nucleated FWPs!

I've seen that company too, and under several different names. In the past year we've had two other companies steal our photos and even product descriptions. One looked like a very legitimate site (and still does since the site is live and advertising today), apart from all the stolen photos...

recap of our live event at Lake Kasumi ga Ura, Japan

This event was so much fun! It was our first time vising Lake Kasumi ga Ura, and Mr. Yoneguchi-san is truly inspiring. I am still wrapping my head around the fact that he manages the entire farm completely on his own. It's mind-boggling!

    Pearl Factory

It's hard to say without seeing the pearls. Most of the pick-your-oyster pearls are freshwater, but companies can purchase akoya in the shells if they pay for it. All of the pearl parties I've seen online (this was trending big a couple years ago) showed freshwater pearls coming out of akoya...

A short interview with Mr. Kiyoshi Yoneguchi of Seiwa Pearl - Lake Kasumi ga Ura

We spent a bit of time with Mr. Yoneguchi yesterday, the last remaining pearl farmer on Lake Kasumi ga Ura. It's incredible how he manages the entire operation on his own!

    12th Anniversary purchase

We are here in Japan getting ready for Lake Kasumi ga Ura! Takahashi doesn't allow returns because of the import/export issue. They understand it's difficult for people to commit to buying without the option to return, so we agreed that any orders from Takahashi between now and May 1st can be...

Mums last wish but ive got no clue about pearls

The nacre thickness is really impressive. It looks like they have 3-4 times the thickness of today's akoya. They could have been farmed by Mikimoto when he was leaving the pearls for longer periods. Before the 1970s, 1 mm was pretty normal. Now anything .6 and above is considered extra thick.
