Tahitians and akoya keshi, plus I'd love some opinions!

I thought I'd post a couple of new pieces. Both are works in progress, actually, though the Tahitian piece is wearable now.

First (this is for me, not my shop), a 36" strand of silvery white akoya keshi and circled Tahitian pearls. I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, with irregularly-spaced and -sized Tahitians, and Jeremy was able to find me some incredibly gorgeous ones. I'm having trouble getting great photos of the Tahitians' colors, but they're silvery but dark and metallic and pink and purple and blue and... they're just gorgeous. NOW I get why people love Tahitians so much! I have some small Tahitian rounds and keshis coming from Care Ehret, too, so I'll be adding to this strand this weekend.

Next up, some gorrrrgeous baroques from Harmony Pearls. I've been wanting to do ombre for a while, so I got 3 multicolored strands to sort into ombre strands. These things are just gorgeously metallic and have a luster that reminds me of really nice ripples. They're beautiful. I sorted them, but now I kind of want to do a giant triple-strand ombre piece instead of 3 necklaces. Trying to decide... Any opinions? I get nervous making pieces that will end up being sort of high-end, but honestly the high-end stuff sells much better for some reason.

I love both -- and I'm a huge fan of triple strands. Smile.

Beautiful pearls and beautiful design. I love that combination of Tahitian and Keshi. I have some Tahitians and I have the same type of Japanese Keshi both of which I have been wondering what to design with. Do you mind if I pinch you design :) seriously it is that lovely. But it does make a necklace expensive for selling. No wonder you are keeping yours.

Where do you buy your gold filled and silver from, which store? You have some lovely pieces on Etsy.

I agree high end stuff sells better but it is whether or not people will pay you enough to make a profit. Go for it.

Battah, I really like your tahitian and akoya Keshi. I see the colors and the mix looks great. It's gorgeous! How long is it? May we have a neck pic pleeease?

Thanks for the lovely replies!

BAS, I thought of your necklace immediately once the ombre strands started taking shape. It's just so gorgeous, and I love how much presence it has.

Bodecia, thank you! I'll send you a PM with some recs and thoughts, for what they're worth. And please do pinch away! I can't remember the name of the poster, but when I first joined P-G I saw a gorgeous two-strand necklace someone had done with silver akoya keshi and some darker pearls, and it was always in the back of my mind that I wanted to do something similar. But I prefer a long strand that I can double or wear long over a double strand. This thing definitely got pricey, but I haven't really been keeping any pearls for myself and wanted a cool piece.

Isabelle, thank you! It's about 35.5" - 34-36" is kind of my sweet spot for a necklace. Long enough to double, but short enough to comfortably wear without doubling, depending on my outfit/neckline. I'll take some neck shots tomorrow!

Your tripple strand is something else. I really love it. When it is finished please post a picture.

Thanks for the kind words, all!

Isabelle, the promised neck shot (doubled and twisted a bit):

Again, loooooovely! Want want want! I wish I was equiped to make myself one of these!

So I fiddled with the design a bit. I think I like the first iteration better.

Very beautiful, battah! I love the contrast of size and color and they look fabulous on you.

Thanks! Trying to decide whether to take it apart and restring without the Tahitian keshi...
