| "Jewelmer, a pearl-farming company in the Philippines, has been especially active in promoting environmental preservation. The company has strongly lobbied the Philippine government to outlaw cyanide and dynamite fishing in the islands. Those fishing techniques produce big, easy catches, but they’re environmentally destructive, and they adversely affect the mollusks on the pearl farms." The cyanide and dynamite fishing technique is EXTREMELY destructive and sometimes the not-to-bright fellow who is attempting it, actually has the cyanide overcome him/her too. The cyanide and dynamite also kill off live coral and blow apart dead coral that a lot of little creatures use as shelter. Yes, one minute you are taking a little snooze in the coral after surviving a harrowing attack by a predator, and the next minute, KABLAM!!..... But is Jewelmer promoting environmental preservation because it actually cares about global environmental issues, or is it just in their best interest. Pearl interest. It did not seem to bother them that they now own/have taken disputed Philippine aboriginal fishing grounds---to the great annoyance of the aborigines. How about giving those back and still lobby hard for a ban on cyanide and dynamite!! It might endear them to more people than just the ones buying their pearls. Pearl farming has its own environmental issues. Slraep

| I would have to go with pearl interest on that one.
