Hi,

As indicated by Jeremy at PP, Kirsten did indeed set aside 5 baroque strands for me to see and I did check them out. I talked to another pearl-guide member and she said she preferred the circled type of baroque strand and liked the darker colors. That is what I was looking for too, but now really like the look of a more silver strand but the pearls are drop like rather than circled. Kirsten said if you are fair to medium skin tone and wear cool coolers (which I am and do), this would be a good color choice.

So, for all those pearl lovers who have baroque tahitian strands, is there a type of pearl (circled or drop) you prefer? How they do lay on your neck? I have only worn pearls that are circular? Thanks for your thoughts?

Are you saying that Kirsten said fair to med. skin tone person who wears more cool colors should stick to silver body pearls? I prefer darker color pearls, more of medium gray body with green, peacock, aubergine overtones. However, I do have lots of blue, turquoise, and green clothes. So I am wondering if I should choose silver strands? Can anyone help us? Thanks.

The strand I was looking at.....Here is what Kirsten said....

"Yes, there are a lot of silver and blue colours in that strand. It has medium and rich colour but not, as you say, as dark as #252. It still is neutral enough that it should not be limiting with your wardrobe. If you have fair to medium skin tone and tend to wear cooler colours then this one might be really good."

I had thought I wanted something darker (ie #252), but its not available on PP. They are probably updating. It was closer to this one, but this is a better grade of pearl.

Now, I'm not sure what to do. I wear a lot of blacks, reds. blues, greens, so maybe I should go lighter, but not sure how a drop pearl would feel since I ususally wear round stuff.

I see what you are saying now. You are more concern about the shape: circle or drops. I am thinking more of colors. LOL

I don't have any drops nor circle, yet. But I would think they lay the same on your neck; and both look good. Circle probably has more rings around the pearls and may exhibit more overtone. Just my opinion. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Hanaleimom, are your blues more like navy, royal, turquoise (more blue-green than blue-yellow), and greens more like emerald and forest? If so - hopefully other tahitian lovers will chime in soon - I would think they'd both look good (spectacular, actually!). From what I understand, people who wear "cool" (particularly "winter") colors usually look good in silver (as well as charcoal gray and black), and "jewel" tones such as emerald green, purple, etc., so I'd think either would look great (with silver being maybe a touch more versatile).

Just some thoughts! I'm sure there are tahitian lovers here who would say, wear them with everything!

Well I don't own a strand but if I did I'd want drop shapes. But circled pearls are beautiful too of course.Depends on your taste. I say get the most colorful ones. Any pics?

I like the response that they go with almost anything.

I am not fond of silver. It must be first impression. But in a jewelry store, the sales person told me people with gray hair tends to buy silver Tahitians and it looks better on them. I don't want to offend anyone. But some silver pearls remind me of fish eyes ( not alive).

Yeah, I think this color stuff is useful as a guide, but I find I gotta love it, or I won't wear it - love at first sight usually works best for me!

For myself, I'd like the oval circled pearls, as colorful as possible!

(But it's nice there are so many choices. Sometimes I see jewelry on other people that I'd never wear, but it looks so amazing on them!)

My two cents -- I think the silvery tahitian pearls are the most flattering color across skin types. Because they aren't as dark, they are more reflective, so appear more shimmery. Circled silvery tahitian pearls would be a great starter piece for a tahitian pearl wardrobe. They also have the benefit of going with almost anything.

Of course, if you could see them in person and wear them in front of a mirror, it would be sooo much easier to make a choice.

Thanks for the reply. What you said about silver shimmering makes me see the lightbulb. I will go with the route: silver body with whatever overtone I decide, but not silver/gray colored pearls.

I have silver Tahitians (drop and more ovalish) as well as a dark circled strand. Let me explain as I see it:

The silver ones appearmore elegant when worn than the circled, which on the other hand does have a look more "young" if you get my meaning.

Drops, ovals, circled or round to semiround - every shape lookes good once it is on your neck.
I never think much about matching colours in tops, most colours go very well together with any kind of Tahitian pearls. So it is purely your personal preference that should lead you (I never thought about buying more silver strands because of my grey hair as I colour it anyway) but in my case it dependet solely on shape, surface and luster and I wanted AAA grade = Tahitian grade A on as many of my strands as possible.

Jody, ask Kirsten if this pictured strand is brownish, mine is deep green with those lovely rose overtones, I think green looks better than brownish green!

I met up with a friend recently and was wearing a suit with a white blouse that has 4-5 shades of peaches & pinks in vertical stripes, and had my exotics on. When the topic of having to dress up for work and trying not to go overboard with that came up, my friend says to me, "Ya, yet you're sporting a pearl necklace, which I presume is fake because the colors PERFECTLY match the stripes in your blouse. How long did it take you to put THAT outfit together?" I had to correct him about both: they are NOT fakes, and the pairing was complete happenstance. He didn't believe me, at least on the latter.

So... if you match your clothes and your pearlies TOO well, folks might think you bought fake pearls to match your clothes!

That is pretty funny! Sometimes we just can't win! Mine gal friends sometimes ask if the more unusual shapes and colors are "real" and when I say yes, then I know they want to ask how much I paid (but they don't ask).

One lady at work was telling me a story about someone wearing "BEADS", then she pointed to my round exotic and said "like those".

Then another lady asked me if my exotic were real or fake. I told her they are natural colors.
