Hi Jennifer,

It is was sold in the 1950s for about US$250,000 and is now in a private collection.

Hi, everybody.

Isn´t it shocking to know that Maisie paid 1,2 million $ for the same strand that lost almost one million through the depression? Cartier certainly had a good hand in this affair. I wonder just how much the house is worth today?

Since the subject of the "Cartier pearl necklace" of Maisie Plant fame has come up once in another thread and misidentified (the picture showed George Jay Gould's Million-Dollar-Pearls) I decided to post a link that shows the right necklace on the right lady.

Yes, we discussed that auction in detail. However, the person who posted the picture showed the George Jay Gould necklace as depicted in the auction catalog, not the Maisie Plant necklace. Also, La Régente was never set in a corsage but in an elaborate stomacher (a type of huge pendant while a corsage is a pin) and before that in a tiara. A note to the article quoted by SunshinePearls: La Regente weighs 337 grain not grams that is 84.25 carats or 16.85 grams or something like half an ounce. It was first in a tiara and later with a diamond cap added a removable pendant in a stomacher. There is some debate where the pearl in the pearl-and-sapphire-corsage came from and whether that was La Reine des Perles, but that issue is as yet unresolved. The Maisie Plant necklace is still in a private collection and has not come up for auction again since 1955.
