Cliclasp, et al,

Among the many things, I ain't good at - one of them is photography.

I'm using a 9 year old Sony Camcorder and it doesn't do my pearls justice. I ordered a special "close-up" lens for it and it only made the pictures darker.

What camera "cheap" do you guys suggest I buy for them close-ups? (the photo's I see on this site are great).

Note: Don't know how you guys stumbled on to my ebay listings in French. I didn't know Ebay would automatically translate my listings into foreign languages - but I think it's pretty cool!

Best to ya's,

Cap'n Rob

Valeria et al,

Ya know . . .

Sometimes, I wonder about Christmas Spirit, this time of the year.

I complimented you guys on the pictures you've taken of your pearls and asked for a pointer or two regarding cameras.

As the pictures I had taken for ebay came out 4 shades darker during the transfer, I admitted that I needed some guidance, 'cause my pictures came out quite poorly.

My respose from Caitlin was - that my pictures were terrible and that I should use a camera phone.

The response from Valeria was - something about a heart-shaped pearl.

Ebay has not been a good venue for my pearls but I made some valuable contacts. Sold one pearl in a setting for 2,800 and made contact with a jeweler who bought two pearls from me at 5 grand each, from my porgybay.com web site.

All my auctins on ebay will be finished up in 3 days. I don't plan on marketing them on ebay again. After the holidays, I'll take some new photos with a better camera and market the pearls through my web site and maybe at a jeweler's show or two.

Happy holidays to you and yours,

And . . .

Best to ya,

Cap'n Rob

Hello Cap'n Rob
I revert a bit late about photos
It is not only a question of which camera, but mainly about the light.
I suggest you take close pictures but well focused,
Since the conches have no nacre you will not see yourself in reflexion on the pearl, which is a problem with pearls
Take pics with maximum pixels (7 MO il possible) to allow enlargement with good quality;
then don't take pict on a light colored background since the pearls are of light color too
Take a dark background, but having as much light on as possible.
Morning light seems to be the best, indirect natural light. You should have good light where you are under tropics
Take pict. on the above , then on the front, at pearl's level

About ebay, it is a worldwide flea market, anyone can find everything, your reputation is very important, everybody will have acess to your feedbacks.
Try to connect yourself on ebay hong kong and you will find your conch pearls auctions as well translated into chinese....

Here is " my" conch

good luck

Cliclasp,

Pretty Pearl - excellent photo (yep, I appeciate good photos now when I see them).

Where did you buy that one? (If it's from the Caribbean, I may be aquaintences with him/her).

What size is it? (Carat weight?)

Although I have more pearls than expedable income now, I have to fight back the urge to try to buy it from you. (yep, I want em all!)

Thanks for the photo help. I will try all of the hints you have given me, before posting any more pictures.

Best to ya,

Cap'n Rob

Actually I said your kids should use their camera phones.

Your website is quite nice and if you should work to get it high in the rankings for "conch pearl", you could find good customers, but you need good pictures too. You NEED them.

Rob, If you hadn't a waltzed in here with that dialect and the breezy tone, I would have taken you more seriously. l was having trouble imagining where you were coming from- I knew the dialect was phoney, so how much else is phoney? Oh yeah, the diamonds are phoney too.......

If you read up on the forum you would see that we have had a line of phoneys come dish their baloney over here. I am an old woman and have little tolerance for phools and phoniness. In order to take you seriously, we need you to take us seriously and I did not think you were.

I knew there was a decent human behind the screen pulling the levers, making like the Great Oz or something and I just wanted to meet him. I truly hope you and your wife get everything you desire out of your conch pearl collection. Selling big ticket pearls is serious business and people need to be able to take you seriously.

Hi Rob,

I think it would make more sense for you to get your urges under control and buy yourself a camera instead. Unfortunately for you, you are cheapening the rarity and "glamour" of the natural conch pearl. By not taking proper pictures, putting the things into cheap settings(14K??) and adopting a less than serious persona for yourself, you are robbing(no pun intended) clients who have money to burn, of the LUXURIOUS PURCHASE EXPERIENCE(LPE). Why should I buy a conch pearl from a guy named Capt' Rob with a phoney writing accent, who has many(don't seem that rare to me) conch pearls set in stuff they sell at Walmart and who's pics leave a lot to be desired?? I'm not trying to be mean either---well maybe I am but it is to wake you up. How do you figure all of what I have written above is going to inspire the sales of moderate to big ticket items??

Slraep

Quoting Slaerp "adopting a less than serious persona for yourself "
I add:

If you miss good pictures, you cannot anyway help yourself without authorisation from other websites, there are pictures of conches on your site, I don't think you are entitled to use them, some wear the logo from whom you took it from .
It is urgent to remove these photos and improve your own pictures and behaviour as well.
