| No. But the glue which holds the pearl to the post has a nasty habit of failing. One minute you check it and it's holding fine. Later that day, your pearl is gone.

| Not good... So what's to do about studs and rings with pearls on peg? Prongs are out of the question. How serious is the problem? I mean, there are lots and lots of studs and earrings and rings with pearls set on pegs. The vast majority of pearls are set on pegs! |

| Serious? If one pearl falls off, I call that pretty serious. My wedding set never lost a prong set stone. In fact, I've never lost anything which is prong set. I even have a pair of prong set pearl earrings that I've had for years. But I also have a pair of post set pearl earrings that I've had for about 20 years and I've had to have them remounted probably every year or so because the glue loosens and the pearls fall off. Why are prongs out of the question?

| This discussion about the glue holding pearls onto a post is making me wonder how best to protect the dangle pearl earrings I just bought from PP. Should I have them reglued periodically? If I wait until they feel loose, it could be too late. |

| PS. since it came to talking about prong-set pearls... I realized how few examples I've ever came across! Even on the web, let alone in flesh, so to speak. Perhaps the selection was particularly ghastly and I didn't know what I am missing. Are THESE anything close to what you have in mind as 'prong-set pearls' ? ![]() ![]() Last edited by Valeria101; 11-28-2007 at 12:25 PM. |
