Is there a source that tells one the average number of pearls per inch of knotted necklace for all the sizes? Or can someone tell me that figure for say, a 16-inch necklace of 7mm vs 8mm akoyas? Thanks!

Here is a chart for the size of a pearl and now many pearls are in an inch. This is approximation only and assumes no knotting.
To help with approximation, a 16 inch unknotted strand of pearls would finish out at 18 inch with double knotting and a clasp.

2.00 mm --- 12.70 Pearls
2.25 mm --- 11.29 Pearls
2.50 mm --- 10.16 Pearls
2.75 mm --- 9.24 Pearls
3.00 mm --- 8.47 Pearls
3.25 mm --- 7.82 Pearls
3.50 mm --- 7.26 Pearls
3.75 mm --- 6.77 Pearls
4.00 mm --- 6.35 Pearls
4.25 mm --- 5.98 Pearls
4.50 mm --- 5.64 Pearls
5.50 mm --- 4.62 Pearls
6.00 mm --- 4.23 Pearls
6.50 mm --- 3.91 Pearls
7.00 mm --- 3.63 Pearls
7.50 mm --- 3.39 Pearls
8.00 mm --- 3.18 Pearls
9.00 mm --- 2.82 Pearls
10.00 mm -- 2.54 Pearls
11.00 mm -- 2.31 Pearls
12.00 mm -- 2.12 Pearls

Thanks! Is there any such chart for knotted pearls? Only because I'm so bad at math!

Hi,
1 inch is ca 2,5 cm.
With knots in between but not counting the length of the clasp I can give you an approx. number of 18-inch strands:

Be aware that the number can vary quite a lot as a strand is made up of for example 50 pearls and of them there are perhaps 25 smaller than 8,5 if You choose 8 - 8,5 mm size pearls and the other 25 are size 8,5 mm.

Here are some examples:

Freshwaterpearls 8 - 8,5 mm = 49 pearls = 41 cm without clasp
FWPS 8 - 8,5 mm = 50 pearls = 42,4 cm without clasp
FWPS 7,5 - 8,0 mm = 54 pearls = 44 cm without clasp

FWPS 6 - 6,5 mm = 71 pearls in a strand that measures 46,6 cm = ca 18,64 inches

Akoyas 7 mm doublestrand: 58 pearls on the shorter strand = 41, 7 cm (ca 16,68 inch strand) and
60 pearls on the longer strand = 44 cm (ca 17,6 inch strand)

Akoyas 6,5 - 7,0 mm: 59 pearls, 46,5 cm without the clasp.

I also have faux pearls which are uniform in size, here the 109 pearls are 6,5 mm and the strand is 82,8 cm without clasp.

As you can see the strands can differ quite much depending on the percentage of the used pearlsize in the strand.

I hope that I could be of some assistance.

Jerin
