Restringing Mother-In-Laws, Best clasps for elderly...

I am not exactly sure what a pinch clasp is. She hates the fiddly traditional fish hook clasps & even the "one touch" bean with a tiny poke in pin. I am so happy to do this for her... It has been years since she wore it...somehow we never talked about my restringing skills??? But I...

I want these to be saltwater...but???

First I thought these would be lots smaller. (these are over 9-10mm)..but I was buying by the color...which is Not showing up...a blue grey with variations (which also isn't showing)...that makes my heart sing! I suspect they are dyed freshwater...but I was hoping saltwater when I saw them in...

Are these pearls or shells? I know it was bought in Hawaii. Also do you know the makers mark and do I need to have them insured? Do they hold any valu

Having had to make a number of insurance claims...because of moves...the only thing is to have a photo..replacement value is less than $200 and I only declare anything over $1000 separately.... Insurance uses eBay solds/listed as a replacement value...but gives you the bottom end... Pearls are...

    Mikado Pearl?

Well that clasp is signed! Looks like a WMn? or uWM?. There is something on the rim too. But I don't think that is the original Japanese clasp that would have been in the box. It could have been changed when it was restrung or it could be a different pearl strand. The box clasp would have...

Live Discussion: The New Bead-Nucleated Freshwater Pearls from China

Super interesting!!! Was just talking to my husband about how to date his mother's pearls...both older & newer ones... based on pearl technology. As I think about this... I see more people wanting whiter pearls as the staple strand. Yet...white looks horrible on me...so there will always be...

    Mikado Pearl?

Hmm...it seems as though many pearl jewelers marked their boxes...even if they were a small company. (You can get that done today as well.). It looks like a pearl necklace... Akoya (as long as it is real) from Japan in the 1950's-70's...I can't remember the Japanese name for the graduated...

Is this a mikimoto necklace with pendant?

Not Mikimoto...but that bag might have contained a small Mikimoto pendant necklace? Nice! European gold mark, so maybe a european maker? I would take it to a local jeweler to see what kind of stones those are in the pendant. Those are freshwater in the pendant so Not older than the 1990's...

Is this finally what I think it is? 🧐🫣

Neat! More photos when you get it! I can tell it is on a 925 sterling bail. Possibly with a maker?

I don't actually know the mark...but it is a company that sells clasps... not a jewelry designer nor pearl designer.

Restringing Mother-In-Laws, Best clasps for elderly...

Sweet Father-in-law bought my mother-in-law her an akoya necklace as a first anniversary gift...She took them to a jeweler for restringing in Alaska in the 90's...he told her to forget it. Wasn't worth restringing...broke her heart..she just put them away... Somehow I never mentioned I...

Please tell me these are Akoya 🫣

Laughing... I just had someone Msg me that a graduated strand meant the pearls were "real akoyas". Of course the strand was "real" imitations...peeling & all!!! They used google lens and it told them akoyas. Sometimes google lens give you just enough info to think you know something...when...

    Does anyone know makers mark?

Merlite.... The seemed to have been a mail order or catalogue store with jewelry. Older. They are usually really good pearls...often Akoyas. I like them better than IPS or /W/ which tend to be newer and usually freshwater.
