Guy finds south sea pearl necklace at thrift store!!!

I have "bought" 4 strands that were ID by jewelers & auction houses that were faux with NO grittiness in the "nacre" at all... the drill holes show coating build up or missing. (I was able to return all of them) Real pearls have at least slight grit, even 1 way grit because of actual mollusk...

    Are these worth big bucks?

Often they are called FW circle pearls... pearls are back in fashion. if you put in "pearl necklace" or "freshwater circle pearl necklace" & checkmark SOLD...you will get a good idea what they are actually selling for... It also helps to put in "cultured" in your title... because you just had...

    Antique Mikimoto Pearls - Identification

Here is the hard thing... there was a akoya pearl die off during the 80's (Red tide, I think)...so that effects how many necklaces/jewelry were made during that time. Then there is also the matter of jewelry firms buying pearls & having them strung on their own personally stamped clasps...

Please, would you check my metaphors?

That sounds lovely!!! Do post the finished pieces!!!! Being in the USA.. I have only seen the Faux with JKa.... But from this forum, I have learned that what I have found/seen may or may Not be true. The vast majority of Vintage Faux pearls I have seen don't have any knots. But...

Please, would you check my metaphors?

The JKa clasps I have seen have been on Faux pearls...so I wonder if the clasp was on Faux & these were restrung on it? On the big photo, 3 up on the left from the bottom pearl has very freshwater shape. Like a potato, but one end is fatter. Reminds me of an American Gumdrop candy. I think...

Please, would you check my metaphors?

I am loving this thread! I love the way you go thru and ID each part. Makes me think that a little more careful ID might be helpful for me.

I want these to be saltwater...but???

I paid used freshwater $... The seller did have the 10mm & "genuine" pearls...but I loved, loved the color. Hate the white string...I'll use Mist. Don't know if I will change the clasp.. it is fine. It is gold filled...but I have so many where the clasp quality doesn't match the pearl...

Restringing Mother-In-Laws, Best clasps for elderly...

I have landed on the big hook or toggle.... I love a toggle, but they do seem to be out of style & they are so different from the typical pearl clasp...I don't know if she would even consider it...we will see. But the big hook is 25mm which adds an 1" so less pearls to match too!

I want these to be saltwater...but???

17"long. ...my phone...so horrible on days & my eyes are just as bad! I am attaching the sellers photos...again I bought on color. The seller took much better photos! That silvery blue...& It is that way in person! (Was listed as 10mm...somehow ignored that??) ..I think I saw the color...

    Mikado Pearl?

I am adding this "mermaid pearl"... & paperwork as an example of ones that might be sold in small shops or hotels. Still could be great pearls (I haven't looked closely)... Just finding out anything about the company might be impossible.

I am thinking the long hook similar to BWeaves. Matching her 15" is going to be hard! But she wants it like she remembers it...but longer. & easy catch..the hook is almost 1" long...so less pearls of the right color & size. If I have the right color but not the right size...I am hoping I...
