To take a contrarian point of view - you described the auction as "superb necklace"... "high luster quality, water, orient" ..."wonderful lustre and quality".... I would expect a high quality pearl necklace from this description. High quality akoya pearls are not "mellow lustre".

Re electrum, presumably green gold is the modern day equilavent given the same metal content? I guess you would get a pale rose gold if you alloy with sterling although typically the copper content is signifcantly higher.

I think the one on the right is SS - to me it appears more satiny in luster with a hint of gold in the color. If I'm wrong, it's all due to my monitor :D

Thanks all for your responses, I was worried that the oxidization on the wire inside the pearls would leach into them and discolor them. I'm not too concerned if they get black marks around the drill holes as I doubt it will be noticable with the wire being black as well.

So, I probably should have asked this before I was 3/4 of the way done with my project... Does anyone know if oxidized silver will discolor pearls? I am making a wire wrap necklace with FW pearls and have oxidized (ie tarnished using the egg method) the sterling silver wire before wrapping...

Hi Wendy, love the baroque pearls! They appear to have some unique blemishes - are these spots where not all of the pearl was covered in a layer of nacre?

Boo, oh how true!! I used 1mm Stretch Magic for my tahitians, thinner diameters for smaller pearls like the silver akoya baroques. I double knot, then melt the ends and tuck into a spacer bead.
