Default Please help me choose a Tahitian pearl for a ring

    Hello,
So I'm going to get a Tahitian pearl ring from PP and was thinking it would be nice to see what the experts think of the candidates. The ring is in sterling silver and I asked PP to show me some choices of peacock Tahitians in the 11-12mm and 10-11mm sizes, with bright, colorful overtones and very good luster.
The first photo shows the initial options, there's six 11-12mm on the left and three 10-11mm. I've already ruled out the 10-11mm already as I like a larger size.
Of the six 11-12mm, I like number 3 and 5 the best, so I asked to see them next to each other; those are the other three photos (they are the two on the right).
I feel number 5 is gorgeous and has gorgeous colours, but may be too warm with a white metal setting (I usually only wear white colour metals). Number 3 I love the colours but perhaps it doesn't look as high luster to me? Is it just the different overtones or is it me? I was thinking of 3 and then started having doubts.Name: image.jpg

I vote for the one on the left (out of the two on the right on the lower three cards). Because it's larger and it's purply!

I agree that the one on the right seems to have higher luster and more pronounced color. I'd get that one. It can still work with sterling silver.

Would you be willing to have both pearls sent to you so you could see them against your skin? There are pros and cons of both pearls -- and either will be beautiful.

My personal preference is blues and greens, and like No. 1, 2 and 4 in the first strip, starting from the right, No. 2 being my favourite of the lot.

Of the two pearls in the second and third card, I prefer the smaller one on the right, as it looks nicer to my eyes in terms of colour and lustre.

I think #3 will look beautiful in sterling silver. Luster wise it's about the same as #5. On the third picture it looks like #5 can turn kind of brownish but #3 still has that pretty pink overtone.

That photo of the two of them where they went darker..I'm not sure that isn't just the angle .. you can see the same darker stripe/rectangle in the pearl on the far left. I think I'd go by the other photos. Either one is pretty and will work , I sort of lean toward 5 ..but it's barely a lean lol

Maybe a photo of the two of them on the back of someones fingers?

I agree with this. I don't understand why so many are saying they'd choose the smaller, brownish pearl over this larger pinkish one. Which is not a criticism, because I am still not that good at translating photos to real life when it comes to pearls. ?

The pearl on the right has a slightly sharper luster (that is the most important factor for some pearl lovers) and if you like the coppery color with the pronounced green halo -- that would be your pick. Like with wine or beer -- there is no right or wrong. You like what you like! If you prefer lavender and/or a larger pearl, the one on the left would be your pick.

Ah, sharper luster and coppery green, as opposed to just smaller and browner, lol. Yep, I thought I was missing something by not having seen many of them in person. Thanks, BAS.

    Hello everyone,
Thanks a lot for your replies. Yes -- that is my dilemma -- the one on the left has better colours for sterling silver, but the one on the right has better luster. I'm not sure which one would make a better ring, all things considered. I also like the colours of the left one better, I think it would suit my cool skin tone better (generally white metals look better on me; I have fair skin -- but not very fair-- and red/pink undertones. Copper is not usually my colour... Mia (who's helping me from PP) thinks the right one might be too warm for sterling silver.
I haven't decided yet what to do what I would definitely let you guys know -- thanks again!

PS: seaurchin -- you can't really see it in the top photo so much I think, but if you enlarge the other photos you can see that the reflection is sharper on the one on the right. Also the colour looks a bit washed away in one of the three photos for the one on the left (relatively speaking); otherwise it holds up very well.

Ask for a photo of both of them resting on the back of someones fingers...then you might get a better feel for the colours against fair skin and also for the size.

I tend to like the one on the right for me but I think the one on the left would be better with your coloring and the white metal. Tough choice!!!
