Default Jodhaa Akbar - Epic movie, tons of pearls!

Oh, have I just seen a movie with tons of pearls, gorgeous stars, Songs and dancing, intrigue and betrayal, a love story - got it all! (also war, and getting smashed by elephants, for rounding out, but I wouldn't say it's a really violent movie)

The movie is Jodhaa Akbar, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.

Subtitles, and a two disk movie, but oh boy! An unquestionably gorgeous movie, and the leading man, Hrithik Roshan, makes a skirt look sexy. That was tongue in cheek admiration, no disrespect for the historical garb meant.

The pearls don't photograph well (at least on the DVD I had) but you get the idea, and we all know that challenge (or again, maybe it was my copy). If you had to choose between lighting for pearls or lighting for the romantic leads...well, no contest.

See what you think; I kept wanting to freeze frame to see the pearls! or freeze frame to see Roshan!

Oh, I love that movie, Lisa! It features some beautiful & massive pieces of jewellery with designs from the Mughal era in India. Glad you like it!

    Hi All!
Caitlin, I don't know if it'd fit in books and resources (wink) because I saw it on a large screen tv and it was a rentalDVD, so maybe the pearls didn't come across as clearly as Roshan. So, I want to get a fresh copy of it... Purely research...

Amrita, did you see it on the big screen first? I bet on a big screen the pearls jump out! "Like it" is delightfully understating the case. I love Bollywood!

My almost-SIL was very patient with me as we watched. She put up with a lot of moaning and gasping of "Did you see that necklace!!!!" and etc, "look at those eyes" and "have you ever seen a more gorgeous....mmm, nose?"

Hi Karin, it's a totally, massively intriguing class of jewelry. I agree with you guys entirely...

How would I go about contacting someone about the pearls in the movie? Anyone got a shortcut? Where would I start?

Would it be Props? Wardrobe/costuming? I think the pearls were real, but again the copy/TV weren't great... And the credits whipped by. I wonder if they were custom-made copies, or on loan? Post-production sold, returned, dismantled???

There must be photographs, for insurance purposes, yes?

I wonder if any of the contributors to PG had anything to do with providing pearls for Jodhaa Akbar? Wouldn't that be soooo cool?!?

Hi ladies, enjoy the pics here: http://kaushicollection.blogspot.sg/...dha-akbar.html

Even Hrithik Roshan's jewellery are TDF...

Jewellery from Tanishq, which seems to be a well known chain in India?

Thank you, Adidaem! I got research started, then got sidetracked for hours by the issue of merchants and pirated DVDs of the movie.

This is totally awesome, thank you to infinity!

I think I saw a part of the movie the second time I returned from Chennai. Loved it!

And loooove the jewelry. In Denmark the tradition is clean, crips, simple lines (e.g Georg Jensen). Boring! I only have one pair of small earrings and one small ring from India. Some day I'll have some more pieces (oh, forgot my hand craftet ruby bracelet, 18K, from Chennai, one of those pieces you can't afford but think you will regert forevet if you don't buy).

Do you have the ruby bracelet photographed? I didn't see it in your albums, but no rush!

No, Lisa, I guess it's not in my album - no pearls in it, only 164 very small rubies in two rows. I'll take some pictures now I have my lovely Nikon D5100. I only paid app. $700 at the time but I was living on $10 a day during that trip and had a trip to San Francisco scheduled a few weeks later, so I ended up reselling most of the colorful tunics from India when I got home to help pay for the bracelet. Never regretted it! I can so relate to the Indian way of thinking - why spend money on trinkets for the home when you can save up to buy gold. And why buy anything less than precious metal and gems (as well as organic ). Anything without a resale value is money down the drain...
