It's all true but it isn't all the truth. Jewelry retailers aren't all the same. I don't charge for drilling my pearls. I don't charge my pearls 100% or more. I buy only by lots mixed in size or in colors and not mixed grade. I do my pendants or rings in my atelier. I buy baroques and cerclees in A grade (sometimes B) and round or semiround in B grade (very few C). All my pearls arrives directly from Tahiti and not Hong Kong. And last but not least all my pearls passed X-ray before leaving Tahiti ? so I can nearly match the big online sellers' prices.
I don't know if in the US it is possible to work this way, but here it is ! Perhaps 'cause I do what I love, earning money it isn't the first aim in my jewellery shop ! Sure that if you want a top gem strand, of the exact coulor and size you like, in my shop you have to wait till the next time I'll do my boughts and it could take 3 or 4 months ! All the above was to explain that you could do bargain also in a little shop, but to have little prices and a big choice you have to go for the big and well reputated ones.

    Welcome Fabio,

Your way of looking at jewlery sounds a lot like our Dutch friend here on the forum who also loves pearls and takes his work very seriously. Good for you! and your customers...

When you state don't buy Tahitian pearls from China, why? Are thinking of the cultured pearls that with a lack of nacre? On-line china pearls we do see on Ebay? Or in general?

Because Tahitian pearls come from French Polynesia, not China. China produces dyed freshwater look-alikes by the kilo though

Of course, I am soooo stupid. I should have thought of that. I was thinking of Chinese businesses that buy Tahitian pearls, blah, blah, blah.
I totally agree. Thank you for your correction. Bluidragon.

Very few mainland chinese pearl sellers sell genuine Tahitian pearls. In Hong Kong, yes. Some do. But not mainland. Most times they are the fakes - right along with the fake sea of cortez, south sea, kasumi and every other type of pearl you can think of.
