Mikimoto pearl necklace

My wife was given a strand of miki's by her nan about 16 yrs ago,she got them off a friend around the '80s,84-5.He already owned them as they were his deceased wife's.So I actually don't know when they were made.They are 3mm 109 of them and a miki silver clasp with a pearl in the centre.Can anyone tell me the year they were made and approx value!

Hi, Welcome!
Since those are Mikimotos, I think you can probably get in touch with a MM outlet for that information, unless someone else has a guess. Close ups of the clasp on both sides might help identify something, so include them if you email an outlet.

It's not really possible to tell the year that they were made because it isn't one of the mid-century graduated strands. But if the strand is from the 80's, it should have good nacre. The value would really be determined by the original quality of the strand and how well it has been cared for since. It really needs to be examined in person.

Thanks for the replies!I live in Australia it's hard to get local info on these types of pearls,I've been looking on the net and I can receive a lot of info about them but I was just uncertain about rough value as I could just take them down to the local shopping centre jewellery stores and ask for there valuations but at the end of the day who do you believe!I don't think that there worth a great deal of money but a ball park figure would give me a starting point.They have been sitting in a drawer for all those years and very rarely see daylight!What a shame!!They look like a choker length(not 100%)but would be better for some one who would enjoy them.

You have a Mikimoto clasp. It is worth a bit more than its weight in silver because it is a brand name clasp. The pearls aren't worth as much. You could take it by some jewelers or a pawn shop. they know who MM is and may be in a buying mood. If they offer $100, grab it. Don't be disappointed if they offer less.

You could auction it on eBay.

I agree that auctioning on eBay would get fifty the most money. Definately more than $100 .. I have not some a 3mm strand of Mikis but I am sure there would be ebayers who would want them. At a guess I would say $300 plus on them.

What state are you in fifty. I am in South Australia. I am pretty sure if you cannot auction them yourself there are a few of us on this forum, the Pearl-Guide spread around Australia that could help you out.

I am not sure if I am actually allowed to say that one of us could auction them for you - if not just delete it Caitlin.

Cash Converters might offer you $100 if they have any idea of pearls. A good jeweller that buys might offer you $100 or more but I think you can do a lot better.

Caitlin, I saw a Mikimoto clasp sell on eBay about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I watched and I think it sold for $30 or $40 ... not a lot but the seller didn't seem to realise that it was a Miki clasp so didn't advertiser it correctly. Probably could have got a lot more. I was on one of my usual searches for vintage clasps when I spotted it but as I don't have any Miki pearls I didn't need it. I suppose someone will be buying a Miki clasp soon with non Miki pearls on it.

That being said, it is a sweet offer, filfy, and probably will get you a Mikimoto price. Take some time to scope out Mikimoto pearls for sale on eBay and you'll see what I mean. Dawn has a store on ebay too. Check her out too. She is honest and knows ebay-talk, can take excellent photos.

Thanks everyone!Good to see such positive input on a forum!I still think this strand is worth around 3-400 as it's well presented in original case.I live in NSW on the central coast.And yes!I might be willing to sell them at the right price,Only if I could get a valuation!!!Ho hum back to where I started!!

The only way you can get a valuation on paper is to pay for one. It will be an insurance valuation which is always higher than what an items real value is. It is a replacement value. If you had a paper valuation which I think would cost you about $60 AUD then you could advertise them in a NSW newspaper. A guesstimate for a paper value would be $1,000 plus but you are unlikely to get anything near that.

They are worth what someone will pay you for them.
