Default 18k Solid gold findings for pearl studs

    Hi Everyone,

can you please give me some recommendations to where I can buy 18k solid gold findings for pearl studs?
the ones on Bella findings have been sold out for awhile and Rio grande only have them in 14k.
does anyone know if the ones on Bella and Rio are solid gold or if they are plated?

    thank you!

Bella and Rio state whether they are plated or solid gold.

If you can get a local jeweler to order for you, try Stuller.

I have purchased from Rio and I always get solid gold.
Stuller is a good option as "Pearl Dreams" says.
Are you going to be purchasing in quantity or just one set?

It is strange. I looked at all my usual sources and I am seeing very little pearl cups

Thank you! I went over to stuller and saw that they seem to be only selling to businesses. Rio seem to have very little option for 18k gold earring findings. Mostly 14k. Thank you for your reply !

thank you! I’ll look at Rio again. Their website is fuss free but I hope they have more options. Will not be buying a lot. Maybe just a few pairs

Could it be that there is a high demand for these? Maybe the price of gold has gone up and they are focusing on manufacturing other goods? The markets are fickle at present...US elections, COVID, Baby Yoda...

The price of gold has certainly gone up the past 6 months.

More likely that they all get their stock from the same manufacturer who is perhaps having covid problems?

Could be, Wendy. And I'd never thought about Baby Yoda, Douglas ! Wendy, do you find 18K easier to get in UK? I know Cees said it's usually more the standard in Netherlands, Germany etc. at least in ordinary times. Rio drew down their stock of 18K and even variety of 14K as soon as gold went so high in price, long before Covid. They used to carry such a wide range of 14K chains of all kinds. Three years ago aready, Bella also had a much smaller selection. Bbg, Bella might be worth a phone call to ask; they are always willing to look, send photos etc., and do carry more than is on their website.

I only buy a few findings here in the UK, from one manufacturer. Mostly I get them in Hong Kong. I got some lovely silver and vermeil ones the last time I was in Bangkok.

I have a friend in Israel...her company does wholesale only, but you don't really need to buy a great amount. I am sure Israeli producers have gold & enough workers to produce jewelry settings. If you need her contact (with knowledge that it is for a "large order") I can send you her name & email. Just let me know.

Another option is to approach a local bench jeweller (Someone who is actually creating items versus being only a shopfront\reseller)

You can then get something made that is not "run-of-the-mill" and a little more special.

eg - these where made for me by a bench jeweller, the design of the cup is not run of the mill and the peg is slighter thicker and you will notice has built in indentations for a very secure glue joint.

And you are supporting a local business :-)

Good thought, Bernadette! Did you design the cup? I really like that peg.
