    Default Temple jewellery :)

Those who are not from India may not have heard of these, but temple jewellery is a popular fine jewellery form in India. It originated in 9th century AD in Tamil Nadu in Chola Dynasty as fine jewellery ornaments with motifs of Gods and Goddesses adorning idols in temples. Later dancers and royals started wearing them and now it is a major fine jewellery trend in India. It is usually worn as a statement piece for weddings or big parties with Indian ethnic wear. These pieces are also considered auspicious! These are very heavy very expensive pieces which involve very intricate work.

I am sharing my temple jewellery necklaces with motifs of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. I thought I will share it as it maybe new to some of you. I designed one of them myself.

It is one of the types of jewellery I collect, apart from pearls and gemstones. I also have some other types of jewellery in my collections, which I will share later if anyone wishes to see.

In India we have lots of big 22k gold jewellery.. same with chunky 925 silver jewellery. But small chains and designs are popular too especially among young girls or as work wear. Pls share pics of yours.

Thank you very much! I haven’t really photographed all of them but will take more pics and share. Since 22k gold tends to be valuable especially heavier items, most of my collection is in the bank vault. I will share pics of what I have soon though.

I will share some more traditional jewellery pieces. These are really jewellery designs that are hundreds of years old. I collect heritage jewellery also apart from temple jewellery and will share some of my pieces here. More later!

This first one is an old Kerala design called Moonnizhamani necklace. Only one or two gold workers today even know how to make it. I am lucky to have got this piece custom made recently.

This second one is another old and rare Kerala design called Kuzhalmothiram necklace.

Thank you Lisa, 86Corvettegirl and Marianne! Here are some more.

The earrings are traditional designs like Jhumka and Chandbali. They are either gold or 925 silver with gold plating.
