Thank you Orient. It's been a difficult time. We have the funeral next week so maybe it will be easier after that.

Yesterday we had my fathers funeral. It was a beautiful ceremony ane the church was packed with people. It was a difficult time for everbody, especially my mother of course. But she was happy about all the kind words that everybody had for my father, who was loved by everyone. He always did have that rare ability to get along with people even in a debate or a disagreement. I don't have that ability, I am sometimes to direct and frank. One of my sisters baked all the cookies for the gathering afterwards, it's a swedish tradition (tye gathering) I don't know if one does that everywhere. I picked flowers from my garden for me and my children to throw into the grave after they lower the coffin. Most use storebought flowers but I wanted him to be buried with my own flowers so I picked a lot of roses, peonies, nepeta flowers (don't know if this is the right word) and the few columbines that still had flowers. Columbines were my fathers favorite flower even though many consider it a weed. Today we start to deal with the legal bits, a lawyer we used when not-husbands mother died will come to my mothers house. I am sure that it will be easier for my mother after that.

Thank you Katbran, yes my own flowers where important for me and possible because of the season. My sister enjoys baking and baked a lot of cookies for the same reason. It's more personal, if one has the energy to do so. Not everone grieves the same way, for us we wanted to do things. Others maybe cannot do that.

How very special to have flowers from your own garden for your father. It must've been a very emotional day.

What a comfort for you to have your family and flowers, and people who loved your father with you; a very good way to continue the grieving process with sharing joy for his life, Charlotta.

It sounds like a special and meaningful ceremony, Charlotta. It's a comfort to have so many people come to honour a loved one's memory and life. The stories are the most wonderful part, to me. Often we learn new things about our family that they wouldn't necessarily have shared. At my father's celebration of life, people shared the loveliest stories—my father was very humble and would never "toot his own horn". So it was very touching to hear so many stories of my father's kindnesses to others over the years. And stories of his wacky humour, as well.

Wishing you and your family all the best as your hearts begin to heal...

Looks like you gave your father a wonderful send off and he would have been very happy with the thoughtful arrangements and actions. Agree with CricketBug's last sentence. Well said!
