Default Pearl Nacre - More than just beauty

A very interesting article on replicating Pearl Nacre, with some interesting intended uses, aircraft, medical and even outer space.

Fascinating article, Bernadette! The moon dwellings made me smile:

"The nacre might also be an ideal material to build houses on the moon and other planets: the only necessary "ingredients" would be an astronaut and a small tube of bacteria, Meyer says. "The moon has a large amount of calcium in the moon dust, so the calcium's already there. The astronaut brings the bacteria, and the astronaut makes the urea, which is the only other thing you need to start making calcium carbonate layers."

    Very interesting, Bernadette, thank you.
The article doesn't talk of the orientation and shape of crystals, and there kind of mineral specy, calcite or aragonite.
    Wait and see

Interesting article. Although, it does bring up the possibility of synthetic cultured pearls.

Reading the scientific article, we may see how nature still works well, better than humans!

Happy you enjoyed the article, it’s incredible that a “simple” mollusk can create something, that the best of human effort still finds so challenging to achieve.
