    Default My Aunt

Today, I learned my Tante Renate (Tante = Aunt in German) passed away. She was 87, full of joy, laughter, and hilarity - and her cooking was unparalleled. I feel so blessed to have so many happy memories to go along with being sad that she's gone, but she will sure be missed.

She was not a huge jewelry collector, herself, but she did love her pearls, and she did have a pride and joy piece- an old pair of what I believe were natural pearl earrings (I do not have photos of them, sadly), but she only took them out for the most special of occasions.

I won't be able to make it to the funeral in Germany, but all the ladies who can are wearing some pearls in her honor -- if anyone here feels like it, throw on some of your best white earrings and such this week and post a picture here, and I'll show any of the photos to her/our family. It would be an incredible thing to show so many people all around the world in awesome pearls. You don't have to, of course, but it would be fun.

So, this thread serves two purposes: One, how amazing are pearls as gems - they are turned to for such happiness and respect in times of mourning and happiness in life; Second, just wanted a place to write some thoughts, and everyone is truly awesome here.

Here's a photo of the two of us during my last visit to Germany, in 2014. -- No pearls, because she'd been cooking, lol.

Many thanks! It's too bad she wasn't very tech-savvy; she would've had an absolute hoot over Pearl Guide.

My condolences too Andrew. She seemed to be a very lively character from what I can see from your single image and your description. May she RIP and wear plenty of pearls in heaven.

My she rest in peace and her pearl passion lives on through you!
No, Midge said, I take it back. I wouldnt get a mink coat the first thing. Know what Id do? Id get a string of pearls. Real pearls. Yes, Annabel said, slowly. I think thats a kind of a good idea. And it would make sense, too. Because you can wear pearls with anything.

I'm very sorry to hear the loss of a wonderful family member. She will be smiling upon you knowing that you share her love of pearls. I don't have pierced ears, so I'll wear a strand in her memory.
