Default Portrait of Queen Margarita of Savoy and her pearls

Am at Gressoney-St - Jean, visting the Savoy castle and saw this portrait of the Queen.
It might be of interest for some lovers of natural pearls, even though itís a painting.

    Jaye,

So lovely! The artist captured the pearls so well, and the lace collar; thank you for sharing!

Ah, those earrings! I love the settings. There is a jeweler on Etsy...I'll have to find her name...that does fabulous reproductions of Georgian diamond settings, using CZs in old mine cuts. I'll look her up and post the info.

Well her name is Margarita, right? Which also means pearls. So it’s apt that she is the Queen of Pearls!
My italian friends didnot know that.
They associate this name with the flower ‘Margarite’, a daisy like flowers.

Indeed, Margarita is ancient greek μαργαριτάρι for pearls.
Your italian friends may know that - according to legend - in 1889, the Margherita pizza, whose red tomatoes, green basil, and white cheese represent the Italian flag, was named after her. haha less glamorous i must admit.
That is also the name of a famous cocktail - Margarita - consisting of tequila, triple sec and lime - But thats another story ;-)
