Hello everyone ,

I'm very new here so I hope I posing my question in a proper place :)
I recently purchased a a pearl necklace and I was assured its a original vintage Mikimoto strand , however I did my research
and I noticed then original Mikimoto mark contain M in a clamshell my pearls has mark on claps but it just letter "M"and "Sterling"
Pearls come in a Mikimoto pouch and some documents

The pearls are nice looking . Consists of 64 uniform beads which measure 6.25/6.35 diameter. Overall length is 460 mm and has an oval snap set with a cultured pearl

On documents the sale date is 1966

Thank you in advance for any help :)

Kindest Regards Joanna

Hi Joanna,

Do you have the option of sending them to Mikimoto to be verified?

Hello ,

Thank you you for your response.
Unfortunately I don't have a option to send them out to Mikmoto , however I'm so happy I found this forum as I read posts all day long and this is just amazing way to learn about pearls . I found a topic regarding a Lane Crawford pearls for Mikimoto and I do believe its the same case.
Now I don't think this are Mikimoto pearls , but a Luke Thomas pearls with Mikimoto documents , maybe the pearls were supplied by Mikimoto company but the necklace was created by Luke Thomas & Co
I guess I have to still learn but I know I'm hooked by beauti of pearls

Thank you

I see some obvious flaws on some of the pearls which would lead me to think they were not Mikimoto pearls. And I have not seen the Mikimoto trademark M without the clamshell around it. BUT I COULD BE WRONG. Another person on this forum recently bought a secondhand strand of Mikimoto pearls and wasn't sure if they really were Mikis or not, and sent the strand to Mikimoto and they turned out to be the real thing.

At least contact Mikimoto and see what they can tell you. Only they can tell you if they are really Mikimoto pearls. Give them the same information you posted here.

I'm a bit concerned that almost nothing but the date is filled in on the form. No size, no length, no number of pearls. The form could refer to any necklace. There's no way to know that that form goes with that necklace.

NAAFI is the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes. A British institute, sort of like an Army commissary. I would guess that the pearls were bought at one of those by a British soldier stationed overseas. Does that sound possible?

This e-bay listing has a similar clasp to yours, but the hallmarks are different:

Thank you very much for your input I really appreciate and agree with you , only Mikimoto could confirm it .
I must say I was reading about Mikimoto quality and this pearls are far from perfect with flaws on many.
Thank you so much for your help

Regards Joanna

I agree that they're probably not Mikimoto, but I'm no expert.

This is from the Mikimoto site FAQs under "I Need to Know if My Pearl Jewelry is Mikimoto":

"You can always identify Mikimoto jewelry by our trademark, which is either the outline of an oyster or the Mikimoto name engraved on every piece..."

Here are a few examples of (alleged) vintage silver Mikimoto clasps. I didn't see any that were just the letter "M" without the shell:

Thank you for your reply, I do believe this are not Mikimoto as I spent hours doing reaserch , checking Mikimoto website , study all vintage Mikimoto necklaces on Ebay.

Thank you very much for your help :)

Kindest Regards Joanna
