Hi,

I'm shopping for dark golden south sea pearls and am looking to keep them as heirlooms so I would like to purchase very high quality items (earrings for now and eventually a necklace).

Does the country of origin of the Golden SSP affect it's value? I've read that darker shades of gold are more valuable. But the darker shades are found in Indonesia and Philippines. Can one tell which country the pearl originated from by looking at it?

Thanks,
Christie

The short answer is no. The longer answer is that some countries produce better qualities overall, but all countries produce fine quality and low quality. For example, Jewelmer may produce some of the finest deep golds, but a fine deep gold from Indonesia is going to be much more valuable than a yellow pearl with weak saturation from the Philippines. Two pearls that are identical in saturation and quality will have the same value.

It isn't possible to determine what country a golden SSP originated from either.
