  • Miley Cyrus Spreading Lies about Pearls and Pearl Farming on Instagram

This is really sad to see. Apparently Miley Cyrus is now a vegan and like many vegans is now anti-pearl, mainly because she/they don't understand what they're opposing.

She recently posted this on Instagram:
    https://www.instagram.com/p/BDIxRDSQzIQ/

I felt compelled to leave a comment pointing out that all these "negatives" simply weren't true, but what good will that do. Apparently it is ok for Miley Cyrus to make up stories and flatout lie to her fans in order to make a point.

pearlparadise_officialThis is simply not true. Pearl farmers use beads to culture pearls, not parasites. Pearl oysters are filter feeders and clean waters not pollute them. Pearl farms replenish oyster beds not deplete them. In fact, pearl farms are the reason so many oyster species are not extinct. I could go on, but this sort of misinformation and false statements just aren't fair to the good people that work so hard to protect those shells and the environment. Btw, five minutes of Google research is all that's needed to verify everything I've written.
This post is even more sad. She, or whomever it is posting images to Instagram feed for her, stole a bunch of our photos for this post.

Apparently Miley Cyrus believes it is cruel to repopulate entire eco-systems with mollusks that have no central nervous systems and no brain so feel no pain, have no emotions and no feelings of any kind. Apparently she also believes it's cruel to give these sedentary creatues that are more like plants than animals the longest lives of any mollusks living in and around a farm and protect them, clean them and make sure they are always healthy.

    It's just sad.

How credible a source is Miley? Not to disparage, but swinging naked atop a giant ball or twerking on live TV simulating a p0rn video seems to undermine her credibility as the moral voice of the American woman. Just my opinion. On the stolen photos, have your attorney fire off a letter...those photos are copywrited, correct?

And I should add, while I am not a vegan, I believe everyone has a right to live their lives true to their beliefs...but we do not have the right to impose our beliefs on others simply because we are passionate about a cause we believe in. Miley crosses the line...it's one thing to express her opinion in a public way...quite another to use photos stolen from a website as some sort of justification for her position.

In my field, this is what we call "drinking the kool aid," that's to say believing whatever without critical thinking. And that is always sad to see.

Oh, Jeremy, I'm so sorry ... this is just wrong in so many ways! I do hope your lawyer can at least get your stolen photos off her social media.

Anyone who's been lucky enough to see Douglas and Josh's data and dramatic photos and videos of reefs before and after good pearl farming knows the truth, and it isn't Miley's irresponsible and uneducated blathering. Why do people feel empowered to school others without educating themselves?!?

This is really sad. On the other hand, thinking about this, who follows this person? Isn't it teenagers? Likely those teenagers weren't going to buy any pearls anyway, and by the time they see real pearls they will have forgotten about this misinformation -- I mean, the practical implications might be very small. Still, I can understand how frustrating it must be to read these things for people in the pearl business.

Well they certainly shouldn't have taken the photos .. I'm surprised that they would do that..it's not like they wouldn't know any better. As for the Info she put out..who knows where that came from...crazy. But, Pearls are certainly not Vegan so I can see why she's against them ... I'm sure she's also thrown away all her Hermes bags and Louboutin shoes..... probably a good time to be going through her trash...

dmi - I'm sure you're right .. they stole part of the article and added their own made up information to it.

So many poor arguments in that PETA piece...first and foremost not understanding the lifecycle of an organism and it's ecosystem. And of course the complete LACK of appreciation for the harmful chemicals used to manufacture imitation pearls! Have they seen plastics being manufactured, and their end of life in land fills??

The Peta recommendation to wear artificial pearls was the most stunningly STUPID comment, sigh ...
