It was wise of the organizers to cancel the big event this year. Unfortunately, we didn't do the same with my husband's family mini reunion in the Florida panhandle. Now four of the 11 who attended have Covid, including me. We were all vaccinated, thought we were being safe, but alas.. .Fortunately, no one is seriously ill and none of most vulnerable of the group has it. They had their boosters and were less active than the rest of us.

My symptoms are just that of a bad cold and I seem to be bouncing back fast.

But I will say, we enjoyed each other's company and it was good to see folks after such a long time apart.

I made each of the women a simple Tahitian leather necklace with slip knots and they were delighted to have them.

How absolutely wonderful to see this thread! What a treat it is to see you guys.

I’m sorry about the COVID, what a drag. How did you know it was COVID instead of a cold, what was the tip-off?

Hugs. Thanks Cathy, I’ve missed you guys too. A. Lot. !!!!
I’ve never had a positive nasal COVID swab, but I’ve never felt so tired, or so nonverbal, for so long, and every time I think my sense of taste is coming back, I have a bout of 3 or 4 honking sneezes, a bit of distress and I’m back to square 1 of whatever it is. But! I love you all, and your posts and pictures, and better days will come. Could be waaaaaaay worse and at least it does get better!

lisa c, I'm sorry to hear that you have been so sick. Yes, this forum is a wonderful respite when you're feeling punky. Sending healing thoughts your way.

We were in Destin, Florida. There was very little mask wearing inside, although we wore them when we were in public areas indoors. There was a boardwalk in front of our hotel with bars, restaurants, and stores on either side. No one was wearing masks along the boardwalk and we didn't either, which might have been how some of us picked up the virus.

Fever was the tip-off that we might have COVID. My husband developed symptoms two days after we returned home. After he developed a fever he went in for a PCR test, but we were still kind of shocked it came back positive. He had a horrible eye infection in addition to cold symptoms. The opthalmologist suspects that was caused by COVID, too. Poor guy could hardly open his eyes because they were so light sensitive. I developed cold symptoms and a fever about 5 days later, so I probably caught it from him.

My husband and I had PCR tests administered by our clinic, so the results were reported to the local health authorities. Interestingly, the other two in our party who developed COVID did home tests and their results were not reported. Which makes me think that there may be a significant understating of cases in the U.S.

Fortunately, all four of us has fairly mild cases, I suspect because we were fully vaccinated.. It took me about 3 weeks before I felt like I had my energy back and could begin to taste and smell again.

                        So hang in there, Lisa.

Thanks, Tricia, I was about to delete my post, for whinging. My sister’s phrase is always “You want a little cheese with that whine?” Her second favorite question is “Was that a red, or a white whine?”

Whatever I have leftover is waaaaaay mild compared with what everyone else describes, just very frustrating. I put Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream in my coffee, which sounds heavenly, right? Not so much. The closest description is petroleum byproduct, but with a gargantuan number of calories.

You poor babies, your symptoms sound terrible! What kind of treatment did you get if any? (And I mean it; I’m giving soft pats on the back, and a “poor baby”. It’s good therapy, just like you guys give to me)

TriciaS, so glad you are feeling better, but wow, your poor husband, and still ... 3 weeks ugh! We just got our booster shots last week, fingers crossed as we hope to see family for Thanksgiving, and a baby we haven't met yet, who's now nearly 5 months old.

Oh, Lisa C I'm SO sorry; I've been worrying about you. Glad you're not worse, but I would encourage you to seek medical advice. There are some new and pretty effective medications and antibodies that might help reduce the length and severity so you can be back on your feet again. Sending you HUGS.

Good to have you back lisa c and that you are feeling better. You to as well TriciaS. That darn pandemic is so horrible. Hopefully we get something good out of it, I have hopes that this new kind of vaccine can prevent other diseases as well. I know they are using it on trials for cancer and aids. Maybe we could finally begin to act like all people on this earth are equal, we do share the same planet. The virus does at least. We could learn something from all this. Rather gloomy this...back to sorting colorful pearls...
