          • This has been the week for unusual animal sightings in our yard!

We always have lots of chipmunks, but this is the youngest one I've seen. He's about 6 weeks old, likely fresh out of the nest. (They grow fast-- at 8 weeks old they're adults.)

And today I saw a large, reddish-brown animal that at first glance I thought was a deer-- but no, it's a bobcat (a.k.a red lynx.) We've been here 26 years and this is the first one I've seen. I grabbed the shot through the screen so it's blurry, but you can see the distinctive white spots on the back of the ears, and the black tip of the short tail with the white spot on the end.

            • Wow, the bobcat! And the tiny chipmonk is so cute! That's very cool, PD! We have several varieties of squirrels in the neighborhood, and sometimes a family of deer wander through. Coyotes now and then, too.

How can you tell the dog to get off the sofa when she looks so sweet and comfortable there?

                  • I love pets...my wife and I have had pet desert tortoises, dogs and cats. When I was doing my Bachelor's degree I had a giant freshwater prawn as a pet for 2 years...and then the farm: 150 thousand pet pearl oysters
But this is my absolute love..."Queen Mimbi", sitting on top of my large luggage as if saying: Please stay!

                      • A pet prawn? Wow! When I was growing up we had a pet tortoise. He would escape every fall, and show up in a neighbor's yard in the spring -- always the same neighbor. Douglas, Queen Mimbi truly looks regal. Just watch out that she doesn't curl up in the suitcase!

                        • Oh the bobcat is a treasure to see! I have never seen one in the wild but I know they are still around the outskirts of my city. I saw a mountain lion once driving home on a country road, and see the occasional fox. No cool pictures though. I see plenty of coons, snakes, skunks, possums, and armadillos though!

                          • Oh, I love Fur-babies !! Love all the photos of everyone's cuties.

First photo is my first born, fur-baby. She was my absolute delight and the best furry child a mom could ever hope for in life!! She is the large fawn pup!

2nd photo I thought I would share some of our wildlife in my neighborhood. The area I live in backs to a National Forest, so we get lots of wildlife in our neighborhood. We have lots of bobcats, coyotes, foxes, javelinas etc.. So not unusual to see them whilst driving or just even when I open my front door sometimes. Thought I would share a couple with you today.

Walked out my door, and Bobkitty was 6 feet away in my entry area.

There many in my neighborhood and they are used to people. I guess you call them Urban bobcats, as they are used to living with humans, at a distance. One cannot pet them, but if you are far enough away, they just look at you and disregard. Too close and they scatter quickly. And we get lots of them with their kits this time of year. They love to lay out by peoples pools, just enjoying the sun. Will include a couple of more photos for you.

Family of Javelinas (these you get NO where near, they have nasty tempers and BIG teeth)

Sitting at the neighbors having a glass of wine on her patio, when Mr Horned Owl decided to land on her fence and stair us down.

We have two packs of coyotes in our immediate neighborhood that live between the golf course and Natl Forest. So they are around. Hear them at night lots of time when they are hunting. Our packs seem to have some red in their fur.
