I got ripped off by a company called http://www.beads.us they have a partner company called http://www.gets.com

They supposed to sold me " Akoya Saltwater South Sea Pearls " a string 15 . 7 inches long, then when they arrive in the post it's nothing like it and the invoice tells me they are freshwater cultured pearls and the round brushed clasp instead of being 925 silver, there is no hallmark on this finding & the invlove describes it as " Metal " . They changed the advertisement since i bought this fake string of pearls which look like a poor trash set of freshwater pearls, they charged me £30 for this trashy string of freshwater pearls, the advertisement for akoya pearls has changed to this now after i bought pearls from this company

They are advertising Keishi pearls as freshwater pearls which isn't a real keishi pearl either , just plain baroque or fake pearls

They are one big con, they say they have wholesale prices, no they do not , they over-price merchanise of trash pearls making too much money for thrown away pearls. This is the first time i bought anything from this company and it will most certainly be the last.

Sorry to read that you received freshwater pearls and a base metal from this company when akoya pearls and silver were advertised. This company has a poor return policy, I see. Only replacement, not refund, for non-defective items. I suppose you could claim the items are defective since they are not what they were described...might be worth a try to get your money back.

As to the keshi, those look like real freshwater pearls of the kind that are called keshi, reborn pearls, or second harvest pearls. They form in an already-existing pearl sac in freshwater mussels after the original (first harvest) pearl was removed.

I agree with PD those are Freshwater reborn - they would be all nacre and should have good lustre. Thats a retail price not a wholesale price .

The 15mm ' Akoya' must be a Gold South Sea or a dyed Freshwater .. like an Edison . The price would depend on what the actual pearl is and what the grade / colour etc are .. This is impossible to tell from the photo as they use the same photo for the 10-11mm 'Akoya' pearl. Also priced as a GSS.

I remember when I was a child maybe 13 or so, someone was selling shells like this and we bought one.
The pearl was a akoya, the seller explained the akoya pearl and it's colors, the overal diameter and maximum diameter and said the pearl value on shell was about the market cost less or more, sometimes more, but most of times about the actual value.
He also explained the colors, most white sometimes a bit of pinkish or yellowish, but never other colors he told about colors in nature, but explained the origin of black pearls.
Also, the shell was a pinctada, I remember because I kept it and at this time I like shells, and specie was a pictada.
Later I show the pearl to specialist or explained as specialist and the pearl was japanese.
However, it was back in the 90's, long time ago!
I remember I paid 180 francs for the shell and pearl was 7mm, making about 30$
I don't know it it was originally in the shell or later added, the shell was about 7cm if I remember correcly, however I was a kid, it may be smaller at this time.

Yes I have found wholesalers that you can order in bulk by color. I found one that in bulk package they tell you what's in there. I was wondering how they know. But then I figured they knew by what they started them off with?

Akoya pearls are all 'planted'. Almost all pearls are. They are real pearls though they are cultured pearls rather than natural pearls. Natural pearls are extremely rare. It is safer to assume that all pearls are cultured, doesn't make them fake.

Cultured pearls are "planted." That's the definition of cultured.

Or, given the topic of this thread, are you asking if there are any "wish pearls" that are akoya pearls grown in the very shell in which they are sold? The answer is no. All the pearls that are found in these "wish pearls" (usually freshwater pearls) were planted in that shell in the factory. They did not grow in the oyster in which they are sold.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that definition of planted. i.e. Placing an already cultured pearl into another oyster so someone can pretend they opened an oyster and found a pearl.

I feel really bad for people that fall for that whole wish pearl thing or buying a shell because they are sold on the idea of buying an authentic Akoya pearl! It’s a very disturbing practice!
