I'm planning a trip to Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. Was thinking of trying to purchase south sea pearls while there. Can anyone offer suggestions, leads and/or ideas? Does anyone have relevant experience they can share? Thanks.

There is a pearl farm in Phuket selling pearls they farm right there. Although they had some nice looking pearls, they were overpriced. Do a search on PG about pearls in Thailand and you will find some posts. I asked the same question. I remember someone mentioned MBK and there was also a specific contact, but I can't remember his name right now. Good luck!

I shop at MBK a couple of times a year - haven't seen any good pearl dealers there, but then again, wasn't the pupose of my visit. It would probably need to be a very specific contact - easy to get lost in that place!

One other thing, Lisamla is right here the farms prices are marked up very high and if they know that you are from another country the price will be even higher because you are a foreigner.

We can give you a discount on your purchase and you can but the number of pearls you like.

MBK have good prices but we can give you a much better deal.
