Are these dyed freshwater or tahitian?

I have a pair of dark greyish / greenish coloured pearl earrings whcih was a present to me years ago. I have always wondered what they are and would appreciate if someone could tell me. I am sorry if the photo did not turn out sharp - I took them on my digital camera but my laptop wouldnt read my sd card, so had to retake the photo again on my blackberry camera .....

From the photo and what you say, I would be moving towards thinking Tahitian - firstly there is a colour difference between the two pearls which is not so likely with a dyed freshwater pairing and secondly this was bought years ago, probably before 'tahitian black' etc became so prevalent. But that is an extrapolation, not a guarantee.

I noticed the not-perfect-match too - which in my oppinion is a bonus as it shows they are not dyed So with my limited knowledge, I'd say Tahitians too. Nice gift!

Frpm your last photo they look as if they have a nice lustre but one seems to be a bit off round (or is reflecting a band towards the back) size and shape influence value plus, do you know whether the white metal is silver or gold?
Where are you?

they are set in 18k white gold and are quite round i'd say. I think its the way they are sitting on the gold post that makes them look off round?

I'd say Tahitian also, being set with 18K; plus I'm not seeing the purple and blue overtones often seen on dyed freshwater. Large round freshwater have been available less than 20 years.

Is it possible they are dyed Akoya? Approx what size are these?

Those are Tahitians, if they were dyed Freshwater pearls the color would be a match - the color is quite different on each of those pearls.

I'll join the Tahitian crowd. They look a lot like a pair of Tahitian earrings that I have (and love). I love the peacock colored Tahitians, but sometimes you just want a beautiful gray.

they are approx 9.2mm in size. I love them and wear them regularly. funny though, I never noticed the differences in their colour until I took those photos .....

The colour difference may not be so noticeable in person - and of course when you wear them you have your head between them - and of course then it would take a keen pearl eye to spot most small differences between pearls
