Hello everyone,
I am a recent pearl convert and have been a fan of pearl-guide for a couple of months now. I am not a pearl expert but have been buying quite a lot of pearls recently and hs_jewelry_watches is among the vendors I bought from. While their return process is really smooth they their communication is very nice, I must say that I was underwhelmed with the quality of the pearls. I bought a pair of Akoya earrings from them, claimed to be silvery-rose and mirror like luster. The pearls I received were very smooth and round but they do not look like Akoyas to me. Again I am not a pearl expert. But when I placed these earrings side by side with a pair of white freshadama studs from Pearl Paradise, they PP ones shine line crazy while the HS looks dull in comparison. The HS ones also have more of a creamy color. I also have a very pretty pair of akoyas from the Pearl Outlet and I can tell HS pearls do not belong to the same species (if you know what I mean). I feel like HS Akoyas I received are nice freshwaters, that is why I returned them. Just some information for you.
Most pearl vendors are in eastern part of Indonesia, but some also have offices in Jakarta.
For online vendors, some good ones other than PP and Pearl of Joy on top of my head are PurePearls.com, ThePearlOutlet.com, KamokaPearls.com, TahitianPearls.biz ...
pearladd, thank you for sharing your experience. Creamy color is usually found on freshwater and sometimes south sea pearls, so I think your assumption is right that the pearls you received were freshwater. That's upsetting because it seems they're charging quite high (saltwater prices) on their listings. Some sellers on ebay are selling freshwater pearls and claiming them to be saltwater, however usually they charge fair/cheap freshwater price for the said products. I'm not saying it's acceptable because they're deceiving customers but at least they're not robbing people.
So I think what hs_jewellery_watches doing is despicable... It's too bad because I've watched them for some time and enjoyed looking at the pictures.
The thing is, if you decide to go international , go international..so it doesn't matter from what country you decide to go - Australia, America, Canada..unless a country has some special customs arrangement with yours, then international is international. Payment is easy too with either credit card or paypal working internationally these days . Indeed if you pay with paypal you can be sure that if there is a problem you will get your money back with few to no problems
Even if it is South Sea, the fact that its origin is in doubt, tells you it isn't the best representative of its type, So SS pearls that can be mistaken for freshwaters are a waste of money at SS prices. Then again, a lot of people sell large FW as SS, so if it looks like a FW, it probably is.
Pearladd - thanks for sharing your experience with hs jewellery! i'm taking them off my watchlist now.
thanks everyone for your thoughts - i think its fun shopping for pearls online! hopefully i'd find my perfect pearls soon![]()
You're very welcome, Chipahoy. I hope you will find your perfect pearls soon!
I have been sent this photo by HS Jewellery on a pair of supposedly SSP - I was told one SSP had a rose tint, and the other a silvery tint. What do you think?

The pearls look very pretty, almost perfect. However, I'm not sure they're real south sea pearls... but I'm not an expert, so let's wait what others think about it.
