    Default I ate a pearl!

    My brother-in-law was eating an oyster at a restaurant and found a pearl. I did some research and im now confused as i usually am after googling. I read you can't trust jewelers and go to a forum. please help, i have a pic.Name:  pearl.jpg

    It seems pearls from Japanese or Virginia oysters are springing up with regularity here on P-G. Likely because of the popularity of the forum, as opposed to the incidence from shellfish.

    Edible oysters are not highly nacreous, hence not necessarily gem quality. This one seems to have a nice teardrop shape. Perhaps it could be fashioned into a piece of "folk art" jewelery.

    Keep it. You have a wonderous piece and a fun story to tell about a rare find.
