Looks like Tahitians to me, I think the seller is just a little confused, she probably purchased them as Black South Sea pearls and just passed the info on to the customer.

They aren't from Australia but that doesn't matter, its a nice strand regardless of where it was cultured.

Thank you for your valued opinion, Jeremy.

And I think so Kevin. If this is a real tahitian peacock pearls necklace , that is OK for me no matter it came from.
Thank you for your kindly comment.

I agree with the others that it is most likely from Tahiti (the number of pearls harvested to produce one strand of color matched peacocks like that is staggering) but I'm surprised to hear everyone say that there are no Pinctada margaritifera pearls from Australia. As far as I know, there are several small farms there that farm our Tahitian species.

It's a beautiful Tahitian pearl necklace, as far as I can see.

I'm so glad to hear that Josh.
Now I am happy about my strand is not from a weird source.
    Thank you so much.

I think it's absolutely beautiful wherever its from!! Well done!

It's interesting on that web site that they list both Tahitian Strands and Black South Sea strands ...they seem to use the terms interchangeably. They say Tahitian (Black South Sea) pearls.

So that means that this strand could be from Australia...? Wow, that's amazing!
It is a beautiful strand though, csj - Congratulations!

    Hi CSJ,
I didn't say that there weren't any weird sources from Tahiti.
Whatever the provenance it's pretty though.

    Evening All

I am unable to say where the strand is from but let everyone know, Black Pearls are grown in the west of Australia.

I've been reading about it for quite a few years now. I think it's around the Abrollus Islands. I'm not familiar with the area but, they have been growing for a while.

With a bit of luck, someone from the West Australian Industry can comment.

I was talking business with someone associated with the West Aus Industry a week ago and he commented that he'd been reading my post's.

So people from the west, Stop just reading and make a comment please. It's time to promote yourselves.

    Have a good week-end all.

    Sorry folks

I miss-spelt the islands name it's actually Abrolhus Islands.

Just had a google to see and came up with Chimere Pearls. I do not know them but felt the need to let everyone know what actually happens in Australia.

    See ya.

Seawater pearls, As I know that nacre over 0.6mm could be quality "A", Especially, Tahitian Pearl is famous with at least 0.8mm.
    So it looks great.
