Sorry. I don't see any pictures in your album either. Click Go Advanced next to the quick reply button and you should be able to load a picture into this thread.

From this shot it appears to be a strand of black freshwater (treated) pearls, not saltwater. Can you take a macro shot to we can see a close up?

They were bought as saltwater pearls so hopefully that is what they are, i know they were quite expensive and from a reputable jeweller.............. how do i take a macro shot?? or would it be better if i take a picture outside?

If you are using a digital camera, use the setting with the little flower. This will allow you to take a close up shot.

Thanks again for the quick reply, I've tried to get the best picture I can but it might be better if I take another tomorrow in natural daylight but I've attached the ones I've just taken anyway, hope this helps

It could be treated akoya. Are the pearls all perfectly round? In the first shot, near the center of the necklace, it looked like there was a sort of potato-shaped pearl.

They are all round shaped but not perfectly smooth, some have the odd dent in them which makes them look slightly less round and they are quite multi-coloured like blues and greens when the light hits

It is more the shape of the pearls we would like to know more about. If some are not completely round, what would you call their shape? Potato shaped? Perhaps, if there are som pearls not quite round you could take a picture of some of them?

i forgot to add it's 24 inches in length, i measure the pearls at between 9-10mm and it has a silver magnetic catch

i can only see 2 that i would say are just slightly 'off' round and a bit more potato shaped, i'v taken some photo's as best i can but i will try and take some better ones in the natural daylight tomorow as the bulb light is reflecting to much
Also if i wanted to sell my pearls would i still have to get them valued and get a certificate before sale?

Was there no certificate that came with the pearls? Do you know the size, length, etc?
