hi all, for the same budget, would you rather go bigger (from 7.5-8 to 8-8.5) or AA+ to AAA?

JMHO, right, Between AA+ or AAA, I'd go with the AAA, just because of the finer glow you get. Are you on a close deadline? If not, why not save up for bigger and better?
I'd go for Freshadama as my Ultimate. In fact, I'm saving up. For this Christmas deadline gift for my Mom however, no time to save up - I went for the size and color she wanted. I got an absolutely wonderful strand of mixed color, tissue cultured FW pearls from Pattye. I don't remember the size or rating she told me, but when I measure by sliding the strand through a drill gauge, the pearls measure 9.13mm to a bit over 9.53mm. The colors are luscious, and seem to glow. Thanks Pattye!
The smaller pearls I bought from her are lovely too! Very special.
I plan to figure out my camera tomorrow and try to photograph them.

I would choose quality over size.
yes, I agree with Pearl Dreams, would go for the 'fairy-tale' AAA
yes, please Lisa, would love to see them - am missing the usual photos on P-G
I have some Kamokas to post, but can't, as my photo capacity is still reduced on my P-G page...... :-(

Some lucky mom! I need to teach my daughter a thing or two while she is still young enough to be pliable

Quality for sure! A good quality pearl will speak for itself no matter the brand or size.
However, if your heart is set on larger pearls, may I suggest saving up & get good quality ones in the size you want.
Cheers!
Ash
Thank you for the input. i actually like 7.5-8mm better so i will invest on the quality instead. My only worry is that i might want bigger ones in a few years' time.
The whole online purchasing experience is great! if i were shopping in a store, i wouldnt have considered so many different things objectively. I am pretty certain that whatever i chose in the end, it would be an informed and well thought through decision![]()
If you were shopping in a store, you would have fewer pearl choices, for sure! Please show us a your final choice! I'm sure it will be lovely!

SO MANY PEARLS, SO LITTLE TIME----
good choice, you'll appreciate the extra quality more then the extra .5mm. 7.5-8mm is a nice size for an earring as well and there's no rule that says you can't own more then one pair.Thank you for the input. i actually like 7.5-8mm better so i will invest on the quality instead.

Go for the quality now, and save up to buy the larger one in a quality size down the road. The prices really go up sharply on size plus quality!
Hi Alex, I tried last night to figure out the camera without an instruction booklet, and ended up taking a picture of a frowny-faced me from the back of the camera! I think pics will have to wait until I get home and read the instructions.
Hi Karin, I only wish I'd come to pearl guide earlier, and bought them before she was 82!
That's funny Lisa :-)
I always think 'instructions' should be called 'destructions', 'cause I can never figure them out anyway ! - especially anything flat-packed !!
But, am still looking forward to seeing those multi-coloured glowing freshies.............
I bet you Mom was absolutely thrilled - what a wonderful present for her
Oh, and the special little'uns too please :-)
Alex
Oh, tomorrow I'm going to try one more time, last day before I go home, because the light in Florida is so much better than Pittsburgh at this time of year, and the pearls are so very pretty they deserve the best light. Pattye did real good by me!!!
and yeah, the frowny-concentration-frustration face was funny Alex (so was your destructions remark!), but what puzzles me is how I took the picture from the BACK of the camera! I sure wasn't looking into the lens...it's a Casio Exilim. There's a little button on the back that has BS stamped on it. You know what I think it could meanat this juncture, but maybe it means BackShot. We shall see...maybe I'll get some good shots yet.
I'm tempted to just go back to my very old Nikkormat.

which model of Casio Exilim Lisa ?
that is quite strange, I had thought that maybe you were talking about a camera/phone - Florida light, yes a good idea, we were there this fall just gone, (although not much fall in FL ....)
still looking forward to the picis...... :-)
