    Default silver or rose overtones?

    Hi all:

I'm thinking of buying a 7.5-8 mm strand of fwp from one of our favorite vendors. I've been sent pictures of strands with silvery rose and rose overtones. The picture is excellent in many ways, but to my eye, there isn't a lot of difference between the two (in the picture).

Can some of you chime in and either be very descriptive or show pictures? I've been around town, and the pearls I'm seeing are either very white, with little or no overtone that I can see, or rosey (which I am quite familiar with).

I'm medium fair with brown hair and eyes, so I think I would look just fine in either. I'm leaning toward rosey...

    Hi Kelly-

Congratulations on your purchase- the 7.5-8.0mm is an excellent size! My personal preferences tend to lean more towards the Silver-Rose hybrids- you get the brilliance of the Silver overtone (bright white with bluish tinges), and the depth and complexity of surface colors that Rose traditionally brings to the pearls... It's like the best of both worlds imho. Good luck with your decision and have fun shopping!

Here I am with my 7-8mm Freshadamas that are silver-rose:

The overtones show up better in these photos:

(Yes, the clasp is huge compared to the pearls-- that was not the best idea I ever had, LOL!)

Thank you Pearl Dreams! Silvery rose pearls can be quite rosey by the look of it. I don't look very good in pink, and am a bit worried that the rosier pearls will be too pinkish. Thanks for showing me your neck shot. I've been mulling over the 7.5-8, or the 8.5-9. Either would be nice I think.

They look white when on your neck, not pink at all.

When I bought these, I would have preferred the 8-9mm (as they were being sold then; now the range is half-size differences, which I like more.) But there was a huge price jump from the 7-8mm to the 8-9mm size and so I got the smaller set.

If you can afford the larger ones, get them. We all tend to want larger pearls as time goes on!

I hear ya about the price jump. That is a big consideration for me as well. I wish I could order different sizes and colors and keep what suits me the best. It is a bit of a pain with me being Canadian and all, the paperwork...

Funny that we want larger as we get older. I quite like the idea of having smaller pearls (like 4, 5, 6 mm somewhere in there) and looping 3, 4 or even 5 times. That would be a nice look. I picked up some of that stretchy cord and strung some some small bali silver beads into a very long strand which I can use it as a bracelet or necklace. The elastic cord is quite thick however, and you need large drill holes for whatever you are using.

The stretch cord comes in different sizes - usually a 0.6mm goes happily through the standard 0.7mm pearl drill hole.

Unfortunately part of the reason for that is that we ourselves tend to grow larger as we grow older.
