Default New (to me) Tahitian Pearls

Oh boy..... someone please take over my PayPal account! I just bought some vintage Tahitians. 18.5 inches. 10mm. Silver/grey colour and believe it or not I can't really make out the overtones (I was in a bit of a manic mood the other day..... like I said, someone stop me!!!!). Brushed white gold clasp with European marking for 14k (585). I think they were a good price. I HOPE I love them when I get them (I can always return them of course if I don't.....). thoughts (other than that I'm insane and I have to stop buying pearls?)

    Jodie,

Those look like really nice drop Tahitians, luster looks good too! Be sure to let us know what they are like when they arrive. Always best to purchase where there is a good return policy.

They're lovely, I hope they live up to the pictures. As for purchases, I sympathise. I had to post a sign on my computer, it looks like this

    DO NOT SHOP
    DO NOT SPEND MONEY
You are Sleep Deprived and Broke
or on an Up Cycle (BUT STILL BROKE)

I might have to ignore my sign for those gorgeous pearls, though, if the Pockets were deep enough. They look fabulous!

Thanks guys. I thought they looked pretty good. They look quite round with some nice circles, the surface looked really clean and they did look like they had nice lustre to my amateur eye. Only thing (as I said) was I really have NO idea what the overtones are like (if any!!!!) I just sort of jumped on them because the price was so good (got them for $600). That was less than what I was looking at for a new strand and they SEEMED nicer than what I was looking at so....... we'll see...... fingers crossed.

Lisa I might have to copy your sign! I sheepishly told my boyfriend about them and he said "wow, those are really nice!" I was sort of shocked.......

They look so promising, so tantalizing ....
But is anyone here going to discourage you from the *More Pearls* fever?
I think not. After all, if I (and others) can't manage more right now, at least we can derive a bit o' vicarious pleasure from those who can, or if can't, still do anyway.
Ditto on the looking forward to the reality report.

Well, how is that for a boyfriend! The pearls look lovely. I understand why you bought them. We are looking forward to hearing more about them. And if you are looking for support to buy fewer pearls, you've come to the wrong place

Not too much support for buying less pearls is right!

We have PEARL FEVER!!! There is no cure, only palliative measures, the major one of which, of course, is more pearls!!

Just buy less expensive ones or save in other ways liking knotting them yourself....

If you are feeling guilty then become a PEARL SCHOLAR! That way you you must collect samples, but it has the particular bonus that you can wear your pearls and talk about them endlessly, but knowledgeably!

I keep thinking I have enough pearls, then something new happens. My scholarship is not complete unless I have a sample. It will never be complete as long as China and others keep improving pearl culturing and coming out with more fascinating pearls........

Yes, Caitlin! Yes! Yes!! Yes!!! Another angle, stated perfectly! and Pattye, Karin, & Narcissa - wisdom, friendship and validity, always.

OK, kids, someone cool (Caitlin, blame her) said I should post this, soooo for all you Cats and Kittens who are feeling the pain of impulsively accumulated delights, oops! I meant debts, impulsively accumulated debts

sung to the tune of Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues
    Late nights on ebay,
    never meaning to spend,
    Bids made on impulse,
    sometimes win in the end

And I'm paying, (aaaaahhh ah ah ah aah aaah)
    Yes, I'm paying (repeat ahs)
    And I'll be paying ( " )
    til the end

oh, oh oh! Wouldn't it be so cool if some of you wordsmiths would add more verses??? Please?

Lisa, I wish I had time to find the smiley that rolls around with laughter. I also wish I was sufficiently awake to add more verses. Alas I am already waaay past my bedtime, finishing a short story rather than browsing eBay, though.

Wonder where your coffee would be now...

Ok, so while I was brushing my teeth, this came up. There may be not so great English in there but I am too tired to notice right now, feel free to correct:

    Procrastination
    will be my end
    I'm only looking
    always ending up spent

And I'm paying, (aaaaahhh ah ah ah aah aaah)
    Yes, I'm paying (repeat ahs)
    And I'll be paying ( " )
    til the end

    Hurray! That's what I mean.

But I'm still Jonesin' for Jodie's pearls. I really, really want them, along with the aubergine Tahitians on that tahitianbiz site. Sigh.
