"Sliding" Pearl Necklace?

Not sure where to post this question but....... I'm curious to look at one of those necklaces where the pearls are strung on a chain (the chain goes through the pearl itself) and you can slide each pearl around to a different position and it will stay where you put it (so you can have them all spread out over the entire chain or all together in front etc.) They seem to have around 5 or 7 pearls on each one.

What are these necklaces called? I've tried Googling "sliding" pearls, "slide a pearl" etc. but no luck. Any idea anyone?

The beads/pearls set at stations with chain in between are commonly called "Tin Cup" necklaces (because Rene Russo wore one in the movie, Tin Cup.)

But the only kind I've seen are not adjustable-- the beads are in set positions.

Mikimoto made one with moveable pearls, but I can't find that thread for some reason. Can't think of the name either, durn. Eureka!!!! Oh yeah, "Pearls in Motion."

I don't know how successful that line is, or if they are still making them, or how they would wear over time. It would require drilling a larger hole to insert the mechanism (if I recall correctly it was a silicone gasket) to allow it to slide.

Yes, that's them! And - ouch! - SO out of my price range! LOL Looks like I need to think of something else (getting a nice present next month from my boyfriend and am trying to decide what to get). Maybe just a regular Tahitian tin-cup (more our budget). I also like Tahitians on leather or suede cords...... looking for very casual. That one website had some possibilities......

A little bit more information on the history of the tin cup.

It was introduced as pearl dreams says in the movie "Tin Cup", Wendy Brigode was the designer of this innovative necklace.

For the first time a pearl with an appox one inch gap of exposed silk, pearl, silk, repeated, was seen in the movie.

It was the exposed silk that caused the frenzy on must have pearl necklaces and still is to an extent to this day.

Thanks Bernadette! It took me a while to find out why they were called "Tin Cup" necklaces (I was too embarassed to ask on here - lol). Finally read something about it once. I love them. I love pearls in general but I am not a "pearl kinda gal" so that sort of casual style really suits me a lot better. Jeans and a t-shirt and my tin cup Tahitians! Yay!

Here they're called station necklaces, because the pearls or stones are stationedm along the chain or whatever.
