Is this Top Peacock Tahitian??

Hi this is my very first post!

Is this the most valuable color in a Tahitian pearl (peacock overtone, black body color)?
Its recommended by a friend. But I will certainly need some of your professional view!


Is S$1900 a fair price to pay? I will greatly appreciate pict references should there be any thanks

According to the Tahitian grading:

There are 33 pcs.
Size:9.2X11MM to 10.9X13.5MM.
Shape: Baroque.
Body Color: Black.
Overtone: Peacock. Clear green/red.
Luster: Very High. AAA grade. (AAA is the highest grade for luster).
Surface: Very Slightly Blemished. A- grade. (A is the highest grade for surface quality).
Nacre Thickness: Thick.
Matching: Very Good Match.
Origin: Tahiti.

The strand you like appears to have good luster and strong overtones in the photo. Usually a grade is given to the whole strand or a pearl, but not a separate grade for luster. Tahitian pearls come in many body colors with many overtones, as you have no doubt found in your search for your perfect strand. Pearloasis seems to have an ok return policy, which is important, should the pearls be different than described. Some of the shapes of the pearls at the end of the strand seem not so well matched to the others.

Baroque strands are available for approximately $500 and up, so this strand is on the high end as far as cost for baroque pearls.

I do not consider myself an expert on Tahitians and hope others will add their comments.

I think that $1,900 for an extremely rare necklace of Tahitian pearls with over-the-moon color is not too much to pay. What bothers me though is the photos. It seems to me that they have been enhanced (saturated) to boost the colors in way that makes them look a little over the top in my opinion. Like Pattye said, check for a solid return policy. If they have it, why not? Crazy intense colors are very hard to produce for any farmer and should be sold at a corresponding value if the consumer is concerned about the sustainability of prices in relation to the survival of the farmer.

I found thread mentioning them in 2006,2007 and 2008. The general consensus is that they are safe to do business with. Is the necklace in the photo the one you will get? When you get it, make sure it measures up to the photo and it will be worth the money. The one in the photo is gorgeous!

The color does look very good. I don't think it has been doctored much. The overtones vary strongly from pearl to pearl.

It might be very difficult for the seller to lengthen the strand because the strand was most likely purchased as a temporary strand. Those frilly ends are very typical in Japan and Hong Kong. Wholesalers almost always add them when offering them at shows. So if the final seller does not have a lot of loose pearls in stock that may match in size, shape and color, it can be very difficult to lengthen the strand and still have if flow nicely like it should.

Hi there, I came across this strand and thought that its interesting to have a mix of colors! What do you think about it? Comparing to the first strand, which would you prefer?

I am looking to add some silver beads like this, random placement between the 26 inches necklace. Which strand do you think will look better with these beads? Have you came across any Tahitian pearl mix silver beads? Thanks in advance!

The 2nd strand is different than the first in that you have more color variation. I think silver or gold beads look better on a more uniform colored strand. If it were me, I would not do it with the 2nd one you posted. Keep in mind silver can tarnish and you have to clean it. Silver cleaning products should be kept away from pearls. Do you really want to clean crevices of silver beads in between pearls and take a chance?

Hi Cathy thanks for the reply reminder! yes the tarnish issue crossed my mind. In fact, I like the color of the tarnish silver, hence I do not think that it will be a hindrance in this case

I just work on a pearl strand with rough gemstones and metal beads, so I like the mix. However, I prefer gold. I also like it better when the arrangement is not very regular, i.e not pearl-bead-pearl-bead. If you just want to add beads irregularly, I would go with yellow or white 18K gold and place a few beads in a more random pattern. Otherwise you risk making a high end strand of pearls look like a lower end. I think both strands look great on their own. If you want to just add lenght, you could also do it by adding a couple of smaller beads at the end.

Hi Ramona thanks for the reply! Yes I understand what u are trying to bring across. Just some slight difference in detail could make an expensive strand if pearl looks cheapie
However, the usual necklace length is 18" hence I have to add on about 7more inches to reach my desired length.. That would mean that I will require maybe 18- 20 pcs of 8mm beads. White metal suits ym skin tone better. White gold will increase the cost substantially. Thats why I looked into silver beads. I would love to see your necklace if it's possible
