Are these Keshi's?

Found this necklace in Manila and they must be freshwaters and the sellers insist they come from the Philippines, where I believe they come from China. They are big 25- over 40 mm with overtone's of turquoise, green and silver

Anyone can give me more info?

Hi Cees,
Not keshi as you can see the outline of the large oval nucleus which is probably made of a shell composite rather like our particle board. The sure are big and shiny though!

Hi. Sellers may have obtained in Phillipines but they are Chinese big coin pearls which have grown tails and therefore gone wrong. I've had similar in stock.

Cees, they're actually really pretty even if they have 'gone wrong'. I'm not sure why but I am becoming quite partial to these irregular shaped pearls. Perhaps, it's all those months of stringing the same strand of near rounds that makes me crave for some interesting pieces. I love the pearl that I saw on another PG thread that was turned into a little bird or chicken pendant. Pearl kitsch, it was called.
I saw some 'fuzzy' looking pearls on Catherine Canilli's site that I can't seem to get out of mind. I think they were called Druzy pearls but I'm not sure. They look really interesting. I have never seen pearls like that in any jewelry store.

Pardon my ignorance but can anyone tell me if it really matters where pearls come from? Is it a price or quality issue to buy pearls that come from one country over another? Does it make it easier to re-sell pearls if they are from a certain country? Personally, I would probably want to buy good looking pearls regardless of where they are actually from.

Thank you for your quick response. I bought 3 strands and was not able to find anything anymore this big size. Smaller sizes were available then but even now those were also not anymore available last week.

The lady told me they had to come from Mindanao in the Philippines and I told her many times that I had very strong doubts they were from the Philippines.

I better check supply from China then as fresh waters are too expensive in Manila

I would probably want to buy good looking pearls regardless of where they are actually from.

I agree with you, as long as you get a good price then buy and wear what you like. They are Chinese without a doubt.
