Default The Sara Pearl (proveance traced back to Jean Baptiste Tavernier (17th century)

Came upon an interesting site. The article includes a couple of tables showing the most important historical pearls with specs.

Has the grain/carat conversion factor changed over the years? The article's rate of exactly 4 grains per carat is contradicted by modern internet calculators giving 1 carat = 3.08647167 grains.
