    Default Fijian Pearls

Justin Hunter just send me a photo of the rounds from a single line at his farm. These were just the rounds. The colors are really something.

Justin has invited me out next month to see the harvest while it is taking place. I am considering it although I really need to get to China...

Anyone here want to the the PG envoy out to Fiji to cover the harvest for everyone here?

Does anyone know why one line of oysters will produce such a variety of colours? I'm presuming that they have come from local stock and obviously under pretty much the same conditions?

The local stock has a much higher percentage of shells with an orange mantle than FP.

Those are really pretty. I have been waiting to see more about Justin Hunter and his pearls here. Thanks for sharing, Jeremy! And I second the (self-)nomination of Waimeamomi to be your intrepid pearl scout I'll just have to wait and see Savusavu some other time...
